Hamburg based producer Hatzler’s EP is crafted to keep the dancefloor moving, with two original tracks and two remixes. ‘SkyT’ unfolds with a rolling groove that ascends abruptly into a throbbing, trance-inducing piece peppered with cavernous synth pads. ‘KreaT’ lays down hard hitting thumps from the get-go, doling out an undulating synth with whirring atmospherics. It’s these whirs that end up combining harmoniously with the swirling synth hook, leading to a highly anticipated peak time release. For his ‘SkyT’ remix, Sian amps up the theatrics, giving the track a dramatic dimension by infusing it with spacious reverb. Where Sian went down a more theatrical avenue, Ruiz plays down the emotion.  Victor Ruiz’ take on ‘SkyT’ is a more stripped down approach, minimizing the elements and keeping the focus on the rolling bassline.

Hatzler - SkyT (Victor Ruiz Remix) [Snippet]

Highlighting sets everywhere from Awakenings during ADE to Spazio 900 in Rome, the tracks are hard-hitting master studies in industrial-edged techno.  ‘Future’ is a chunky stomper perfect for the winter warehouse party season, as multi-layered synths and effects rub shoulders with heavy-set drums to ensure this one hits its target.

Now on the fifth edition The Blokk Vol.5 includes individual tracks from The Reactivitz, Stiv Hey, Nicolas Taboada, DJ Jock, Alex Lentini and Ace Alvarez.
Many of the artists on this release have already proven themselves on other high profile techno imprints such as Intec, Phobiq, Unity Records, Elevate, Terminal M, OFF Recordings and Loose Records.
Ace Alvarez opens the EP with the pounding kick drum and warping synths of his track “Instinct”. Next is the rattling percussion and dramatic bass stabs of Alex Lentini’s “Epilogue” before DJ Jock lifts things up a gear with the throbbing acid-line of his track “Distant Lands Of Unknown”. Not to be outshone, Nicolas Taboada keeps the intensity high with the fast-flowing percussion of his cut “The Train”. Stiv Hey brings a hint of euphoria to the EP with his atmospheric masterpiece “The Hunter” and saving the best till last, The Reactivitz closes the release with the driving force of "Keep Your Mind Clear".

Continuing his rise to the top, I AM BAM is making his debut on Unrilis following his other releases on Kneaded Pains, Terminal M, Odd Recordings, Quartz Rec, Suara and Octopus.

I AM BAM is a talented artist who started his career as a session musician and songwriter working in different studios between L.A. and New York. Working in those studios he learnt skills from some of the world’s best producers, and experimenting with different ideas, has helped develop his compelling style of dark techno.

“You Know” opens the release with ethereal vocals that add to the trippy melodies and breath euphoria over the pounding percussion. Lifting the intensity, “Orbital” has warping synths and fast flowing rhythms that tantalise the senses. Dramatic and full of charisma “10X” has a spooky atmosphere perfect for capturing the imagination of the dance floor. Closing proceedings with bursts of energy and hypnotising tones, “Immersion” has the peak time sound that runs throughout this masterpiece of modern techno.

Lebanese DJ/producer Köschk is back with a fresh new four-tracker in the form of his latest offering, 'Speak My Mind EP'. This one follows a string of remixes over the last 12 months as well as superb originals. After several appearances on Bonzai Progressive compilations, he began to deliver top-notch original works which always grab a lot of attention.

'Tether' intros with a classic kick drum backed up with intriguing percussions & atmospheric FX. A plucky rolling bassline fades in before the kicks are given a boost, settling the track into a smooth progressive mover. Shimmering synths bring a melodic flavor on the break before we head back into the deeper, moody groove once more. A solid cut that will not disappoint.

'Speak My Mind' is up next, delivering a sharper slice thanks to punchy kicks & defined FX. Surreal sounds float around the background, adding a deeper layer, while a rippling bass sits subtly on the low end. Sporadic percussions dish out a cool rhythm before brighter, melodic elements come through. On the break, a striking, gritty & organic synth hits us square in the face, contrasting with the softer notes. Top-notch stuff for the late sessions.

'Funktion' sets us on a much deeper course. On the intro, we find a muted kick drum & earthy atmosphere that lulls us in. A rolling bassline takes control, becoming the main feature with its stand out signature. The track combines various strange, eerie sounds into a surreal, otherworldly construction, topped off with a strong progressive groove. Very nice indeed, not to be missed.

'Spacewalk' does as the title suggests, taking us for a trek into the outer atmosphere. A steady building groove made up of strong basses & flowing rhythms get us there, in-tact & ready for the climax. This comes in the form of beautifully crafted arp sequences that rise & fall, releasing energy into the mix. An absolute must for the more energetic sets.

Weska is back with a Third Wave and it’s a monster comprised of three original cuts.

After years building a career and getting music signed to everyone from Drumcode, Suara and Tronic, travelling the globe with gigs in Australia, Canada and all over Europe, and appearing as part of the mighty Drumcode showcases, it’s safe to say Weska is right on the cusp of his career. 

‘Timespan’ is a darkly melodic bruiser for the late-night industrial crowds. Rolling bass and sizzling hats ride the rhythm as saw-toothed dystopian synths create atmosphere and intrigue. Spoken word vocals and a melodic key line add spice midway, then its heads down and stomp until dawn.

David Granha debuts on Unrilis with a new EP that's made in collaboration with label favourite Hollen.

Along with many releases on Unrilis, Hollen has also worked with other high-flying labels such as Intec, Filth On Acid, Tronic, 100% Pure and his own Prospect Records. Equally as successful, David Granha's tracks can be found on Odd Recordings, Octopus, Noir Music plus Phobiq, and he connected with Hollen via a release on his label.

This is the first time the pair have collaborated on original music, and their joint output is nothing less than exceptional, as their dark and powerful techno tracks are the perfect fusion of epic melody and pounding percussion.

'Try To Do It' blends ominous pads and swelling tension with a twisted euphoria, before 'Braided' takes control with its dystopian sound design. The pulsating rhythms of 'Alliance' bring an end of the night vibe to the EP. It's closed out with an intro mix of 'Try To Do It' that's the perfect tool for opening a DJ set in compelling style.

If you want a snapshot of where techno stands in any given year, and a preview of where it’s headed, look no further than Drumcode’s A-Sides compilation. Since 2012 it has marked the label debuts of countless vital Drumcode artists and affiliates, from Layton Giordani, Wehbba and Boxia, to Amelie Lens and ANNA, no less. Every year, new names are unearthed, tried and true techno contributors serve up their best, and icons of the industry land their debut on Adam Beyer’s storied label.

The 2020 edition hits with 13 tracks, eight coming from label debutants. There’s Eats Everything searing rave bomb ‘Organico’ and Dubfire’s ice-cool electro offering ‘Deadbug’, both artists landing their maiden contributions to DC after long affiliations with Beyer. With three EPs in less than two years on Truesoul, Oscar L steps up to DC, showing the breadth of his sound palette with a soaring, synth-laden gem ‘Dark Fate’. Belgians Joyhauser featured at last year’s Drumcode Festival paving the way for ‘Fierceness’, a beautiful melody-drenched cut befitting their DC cap. Anfisa Letyago is another first timer and shows why she’s one of the scene’s most highly touted new artists with the brooding beast ‘Are You In’. A growing label favourite, Juliet Fox follows up ‘Was Beautiful’, her superb track on last year’s A-Sides, with ‘Our Fantasy’, reinforcing her skill for crafting anthemic techno compositions. Thomas Schumacher & Victor Ruiz link and the result is ‘Intuit’, a sleek futuristic roller that hits you square between the eyes. Other highlights come from longtime Drumcode cohorts Reset Robot and Harvey McKay, who both dish up premium works, reinforcing their classy productions nous.
