Currently residing in Essen, Glenn Astro has spent a bit more than half his life DJing and producing, first in the realm of hip-hop and more recently with an ear toward dance music. After his first releases in this style in 2011 and 2012, Glenn really went for it in 2013 with a trio of EPs that showed hip-hop's soul and house music's drive are in no way mutually exclusive. This 26-year-old may embrace the latter these days, but when you close your eyes and let his gritty low-end do its dirty work, you'll hear plenty of the former's bump still kicking around in there.

His first EP of 2014 is a case in point: Tartelet hits catalog number 27 with gritty soul music for 120-BPM dance floors. "Love Jones" starts things off by taking its time, letting the beat ease in at the halfway mark while Glenn's sumptuous chords simmer in stereo. CTEPEO '57, whose The Missouri Breaks EP closed out Tartelet's 2013, doesn't so much remix "Love Jones" as pick up where the original left off, its banged-out piano chords and tropical shuffle coming out of nowhere in the best possible way. On the flip, "Acid Tears" throws a bit of Chicago into rattling drums, cosmic saxophones and some wonderfully warped spoken word. On its counterpart "Dub Tears," plaintive strings and searing cymbals fly high over wide, low, rumbling terrain. Glenn Astro's given us a whole lot of groove here—we invite you to have at it, and whet your appetite for his debut full-length due this summer on The Gym Rec.

The clever hammer shots that evolve into robotic bird song add to the draw as Philogresz casually builds with piercing but never painful chords. Soma stalwart Harvey McKay is back with 3 more big room bombs in his Foreshadow EP backed with a thumping Frankyeffe remix. 2013 was one of the biggest in the Glasgow based producers career and some massive releases have helped propel him to the top of the Beatport charts and gained him a huge following throughout the techno community. With his big abrasive kicks and perfectly tuned synths and vocal cuts, Harvey has carved out a unique sound that is instantly recognisable.

Are You Real kicks things off in true Harvey style as a big groove works its way across deep synth hooks and chopped and melodic vocals. Punishing hi-hats and rides really make this track work as Harvey’s well-crafted sequence drops and kicks at just the right moments.

Harvey keeps things deep on Creep as a sinister rolling bass line meanders in to a small break pinned together by hypnotic vocals slices and stuttering, skipping percussion. Harvey keeps things looping perfectly and allows this track to build into and absolute monster by the time he hits out with all guns blazing.

Harvey rounds up his offerings on this EP with Sargon’s Birth. Another monster bass is funked up with crystal clear grooves and straight in your face, dance floor attitude. Almighty drops are the order of the day and Harvey serves them up by the pound.

Italian producer Frankyeffe take on Sargon’s Birth and turns in a big room powerhouse of a track. Keeping in the same vein of Harvey’s thumping low end, he pulls the synths out and gives them a real Detroit feel, keeping them short and stabby. This is one for those peak time hours for sure.

Harvey continues his excellent run of form with this EP and shows why he is one of Techno’s brightest stars.

Timmo’s debut Drumcode release ‘We Beat On’ carries a flow through out that gives Timmo his own unique sound that has captured the ears of many highly revered techno DJ’s around the world. Timmo uses hypnotic sounds and phrases whilst he always maintains a thumping techno beat that underlies all the tracks within this EP to maximum effect. Furthermore, there is a ghostly feel amongst Timmo’s tracks that really provide him with his acquired sound, the pads in ‘Canvas’ are a beautiful reminder of this. Timmo also uses strong synth stabs to full effect that juxtapose against the drums to help create the tension and aggression that is present within techno.

In this way, Homer’s Apologue warns us about the irresistible and therefore dangerous power of music. Believe it or not, Sirens Of Lesbos’ first release «Long Days, Hot Nights» makes Homer’s warning come true. Timeless, pitched down vocals and a warm, lush, lulling and satisfied piano tell the tale of a place where the boundaries between reality and fantasy become blurred and where space and time lose their purpose – a place to get lost in. Maybe Homer was right and music is a dangerous thing. Be that as it may, Sirens Of Lesbos’ «Long Days, Hot Nights» makes danger feel pretty awesome.

We are overjoyed to announce the next candidate for our label-catalogue after Kerri Chandlers "The Watergate Files" EP. New Watergate resident Matthias Meyer was recently added to our booking agency - his debut on Watergate Records is called "Becuz" and hereby it immediately answers every potential question.

The eponymous Track has the atmospheric density of an approaching storm front that discharges into epic organ- hooks and shredded vocals. Appropriate to that the B-side begins with "November Rain", a beat-driven techno- anthem with foggy synth-spheres and "closed eyes"-attitude. Mario Basanovs a.k.a. Ten Walls' interpretation has more contours and a percussive touch that keeps the mood of the original unchanged: November rain in a tropical rainforest. An astonishing EP with two great tracks and a wonderful remix. "Becuz" EP will be released on May 12th on vinyl and digital.

The repetitive claps induce a flurry of energy and excitement whilst supported by the crisp highs.
