Language possesses all the dark rolling drum patterns, heavy percussions and heaping layers that make up a classic industrial techno piece. Carlo Lio adds in pronounced kick and sizzling hi¢s that continue to grow throughout the track, creating an energetic swell in the room. Language is one of those tracks that cannot contain its ability to take-over any size room.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional.
 
Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America. 

Adam Beyer & Mark Reeve - Nine Of You - Drumcode - DC159

Forceful, industrial and acidic, Kamera’s ‘Consignia’, taken from his EP ‘Ventoux’, arrives reworked by two producers each as uncompromising as the source material. 

Truncate steps up to deliver a remix that further encapsulates his precise vision of deep, raw techno. Choosing to boldly strip back the foundations of the original track, his powerful rework performs subtle but precise surgery, creating a tense masterpiece of sustain and release, enveloping the dancefloor in thunderous claps and jittering rave samples.

Meanwhile, the so far elusive Yaleesa Hall is tapped for an offbeat, dub version of Consignia, twisting the track into something altogether darker and stranger. A muddied, dare we say filthy bassline supports a chaotic framework of unpredictable drum patterns and mechanized noise, while still maintaining a hallucinogenic groove as the track’s original elements gasp for air underneath.

Oh boi. The impeccable Henrik Schwarz redubbing Sven Väth's classic 'Electrica Salsa' - a truly remarkable feat.

The track was first released back in 1986, when Sven (at the age of 21) was a member of Frankfurt project OFF, alongside Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti. ‘Electrica Salsa (Baba Baba)’ changed the face of electronic music in European pop culture, achieving top three success in France, Austria and Germany at a time when dance music was still regarded as an underground movement from Detroit and Chicago. 30 years later, Sven enlisted Henrik Schwarz and Roman Flügel to provide remixes of the track.

Best known for his work on Innervisions, !K7, and Defected Records, and acting as one half of the acclaimed duo Schwarzmann alongside Frank Weidemann - Schwarz has dedicated almost his entire life to electronic music production. The atmosphere created in his newly formed Electrica Salsa is one with gated reverberated snares and percussive hits, little melodic stabs, and sneaky space synths to what makes one feel as if they are inside the Mos Eisley cantina... with Sven Väth whispering in your ears.
