November is officially our birthday month so we're kicking off the celebrations with this mix recorded live from our 16th Birthday at Corsica Studios. It's the early hours of Sunday morning, Tim Reaper & Mantra step up at 5.30am, room 1 is heaving, Moose, Blackeye and Double O are vibing! It's raw, uncut, raggo but totally captures what the last set at Rupture is all about. We were unsure whether to put this up as it's a bit distorted in parts but we hope you bare with us and can hear past the snap crackle and pop and enjoy the beautiful sounds of 94/95 jungle played on vinyl. The festive season is here and I just hit 2 million plays, so it's a double celebration. Now if, like me, you think that nothing says Christmas like a bit of soul-crushingly dark techstep then I'm sure this festive offering won't disappoint. Indeed, this idea is one I've been sat on for a while; my mixing habits have definitely slowed this year but I really wanted to grind a decent one out before 2025. 

The mix rationale then. Caught up somewhere between my 500th listening of Trace & Ed Rush's legendary '97 One In The Jungle set, and the preceding year's Tech Steppin compilation, I found myself asking a simple question. What if the legendary (and it really is fucking legendary) 'No U-Turn Experience' mix had been made a year earlier? Why don't you ponder that for a minute, grab a large Baileys, pop this on and kick back. Merry Christmas.

Mustard Music proudly presents Do It Yourself, the new album from Cornwall-based producer Oli Lewis — a release that steps confidently outside the label’s usual drum & bass funk lane and into something more raw, personal, and uncompromising.

Balancing life as a professional chef by day and a producer by night, Oli Lewis embodies the true spirit of independence. The title Do It Yourself is more than a name — it’s a philosophy that runs through every layer of the record. Written, produced, and crafted in his own meticulously curated analogue studio, the album reflects a hands-on approach that values texture, warmth, and process as much as energy and impact.

Sonically, Do It Yourself leans into a deeper, more stripped-back side of drum & bass. While still rooted in the genre’s foundations, the album explores heavier atmospheres, analogue grit, and a moodier palette than Mustard Music’s trademark funk-led sound. Hardware-driven basslines, tactile drum programming, and subtle imperfections give the tracks a human edge — music made with intent rather than formula.

Living and working in Cornwall has also left its mark. There’s a sense of space and isolation woven into the record, contrasting sharply with the high-pressure kitchen environments that fund Oli’s creative output. That tension — between routine and release, structure and freedom — fuels the album’s character.

Do It Yourself stands as a statement of authenticity: drum & bass created outside the mainstream, built in an analogue workspace, and shaped by an artist who refuses to wait for perfect conditions before creating. For Mustard Music, it marks a bold and refreshing step into new territory.

Law - All Goldie Mix (92-95)

this is the mix, consisting of Moving Shadow releases only, clocking in at 4 (four) hours and is the first mix of three. all tracks featured (except one) are from releases with catalogue numbers before 100 - roughly at that time there was a major change in drum&bass as a whole - it became more cold, nervous, machine-like and I felt emotionally more connected to the more soulful, atmospheric and jazzy stuff being released earlier than that.

as you might have figured out by now, I was - and still am, in a way - an addict of this fine label which managed to release a hell of an amount of most forefront quality drum&bass and jungle of it's time. I was so obsessed I had to get every single vinyl Moving Shadow release. after 250 or so releases, I still am halfway. for me, it was a label with unsurpassed quality/quantity ratio, with an unique sound, the cream of the crops, the icing on a chocolate cake. few other drum&bass labels have ever gotten close to this, most notably the Good Looking empire, Metalheadz.

if anyone should care, it was recorded using two stanton st-90 turntables, a numark dm3001x mixer and two stanton sk520 cartridges, meaning it's an all vinyl mix and recorded in one go.

as I said before, there are two more 4-hour moving shadow only sessions. my ultimate dream would be to re-record and re-master these mixes using digital copies, to ensure the best sound quality which the pieces of music contained definitely deserve. these mixes were intended to be a journey through the soundscape, the snapshot of mid-90s moving shadow world, therefore, my input is merely a vessel for the music.
