As he'll happily tell you, Eddie Fowlkes has been DJing for 42 years. That's a long time for anyone, but especially for someone who never really stopped. From his early records on Juan Atkins' Metroplex record label through to newer releases on his own labels City Boy and Detroit Wax, he's been doing his thing and staying true to himself and his timeless combination of Detroit dance music genres. He doesn't always get his dues alongside his fellow Detroit techno pioneers in the Belleville Three, probably because his sound was always more hybrid, a blend of techno and house that he would come to call techno soul, including on his landmark 1993 album with Moritz von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann, The Birth Of Technosoul.

But Fowlkes is still a force of nature, and a master at mixing too, having four decades to hone his craft. You'll hear that skill on his RA Podcast, which comes in the wake of two more prominent releases, for Rekids and Classic Music Company/Defected, that might help (re)introduce him to a wider audience. Touching on soul, jazz and funk, this is functional but deep stuff played by a master selector, whose hands you can always hear in the mixing—a personal, human touch that defines techno soul.

Alban Uzoma Nwapa (born 26 August 1957), better known by his stage name Dr. Alban, is a Nigerian-Swedish recording artist and producer with his own record label, Dr. Records. His music can best be described as Eurodance/hip-hop reggae in a dancehall style. He has sold an estimated 16 million records worldwide and is most famous for his worldwide 1992 hit "It's My Life", from the album One Love.

Vladislav Nogin - Klingklang

Vladislav Nogin hits hard with this 5 track EP. Filled to the brim with heavy duty shuffling techno, but not in the way you think. Polyrhythmic deepness, accents funkier than 1991 Chicago house and crazy sampling that hypnotizes with its awkward placement in the patterns. Nogin is also a pioneer in the SOMATIK TECHNO movement, slow and heavy techno that finds its origin in St Petersburg.

Besides working as a producer for a bunch of cool labels, Nogin is a composer for film, which gives him a productional edge in balancing the sounds he uses on each other like lego's. It's tight, it's superdeep and psychedelic and we are proud to drop this on NYH: check out the somatik techno of Vladislav Nogin!

Drvg Cvltvre has long been a shadowy architect of the underground, conjuring claustrophobic soundscapes and dissonant realities that feel plucked straight from some post-apocalyptic industrial wasteland. On “Us Against Us,” his latest 12-minute opus, the Dutch producer eschews the stomping electro rhythms he's often flirted with in favor of a harrowing descent into pure industrial ambient minimalism. It’s a patient, pummeling dirge—a slow-motion scream reverberating through empty factories and forgotten spaces.

“Us Against Us” doesn’t invite the listener so much as it traps them. The track opens with a low, tectonic hum, a frequency that seems to crawl along the floor, unsettling the senses like distant machinery warming to life. Over the first few minutes, layers of static yet human sound creep in at the edges, their abrasive textures swelling and disintegrating in hypnotic cycles. Drvg Cvltvre has always excelled at tension, but here it’s weaponized. It feels deliberate, methodical, as though he’s slowly welding the listener into their seat.

Midway through, the tension fractures as a distorted, metallic drone slowly takes center stage, rising and falling like the breath of some immense, decaying organism. It’s at this moment you realize that “Us Against Us” is not a typical ambient exercise. The track is suffocating in its singular focus—there are no grand melodic flourishes or satisfying climaxes to soften its impact. Instead, it evokes a kind of anti-hope, a meditation on decay and entropy. Even the track’s title suggests a conflict of self-consumption, a doubling-down on existential dread.

Yet, for all its bleakness, there’s a certain serenity to be found here, too. The final minutes blur into a desolate calm, the layers thinning like fog retreating from a rusted landscape. "Us Against Us" doesn’t entertain; it doesn’t even comfort. But like the best industrial ambient works—think Lustmord’s *Heresy* or Coil’s *How to Destroy Angels*—it leaves a residue on the listener, a lingering discomfort that somehow feels vital.
