For our 36th ritual of Selene Series we went back to basics. We bring dancefloor energy with a mix of deep and psychedelic techno. Some classic, some new, straight dancefloor mental stuff. Maybe it is the festival season, the events, the afters… but something urged us to keep it functional this time, music to keep grooving to and to lose yourself into.

@zoukai-212 is a french moroccan dj based in Leipzig, Germany. Part of the Kiebitz, a German collective since 2019, he usually plays mixtures of deep and hypnotic techno tracks with lots of variations, experimental tones and breaks, as well as groovier or more industrial vibes. 
His taste for textures and psychedelic atmospheres is what he likes to share the most, as a way to connect and communicate with the crowd and his environment.

Today, Zoukai wanted to speak out through his set about reefs whitening and destruction, which is another phenomenon resulting from global warming and climate change which will have ultimate consequences...

Coral reefs, though covering just 0.01% of the ocean floor, are vital ecosystems supporting 25% of marine life and benefiting over one billion people through food, livelihoods, and coastal protection. However, they face local and global threats. 

Locally, overfishing disrupts the ecological balance, while land-based issues like sedimentation and nutrient pollution harm coral health. Ships further contribute to damage them.
Globally, climate change poses a significant threat. Rising ocean temperatures lead to coral bleaching, where corals expel colorful algae, potentially causing their demise. On top of that, ocean acidification, driven by increased carbon dioxide levels, impairs coral growth and result in weaker structures that are more prone to erosion.

The current state of coral reefs varies, but around half are degraded, with impacts on species diversity in some regions.

The outlook for coral reefs is grim, with projections of frequent bleaching events that could lead to their disappearance by 2100. However, there's hope in reef resilience, better understanding, and improved management. Some reefs display natural resistance to higher temperatures, and coral restoration techniques are being developed.

Efforts to secure a future for coral reefs must include sustainable fisheries management, pollution reduction, and coordinated conservation measures at local levels. Globally, limiting global warming to 1.5°C is essential, emphasizing coral reef preservation in international climate strategies. Collaboration is key to safeguarding these critical ecosystems.
