Let's meet our dj, Mizeyesis:

Mizeyesis is a dj & producer from the Northeastern United States. In 2018, She's released on Elm Imprint's Halflife85 and ThazDope Records, Doyenne which is a compilation highlighting female producers and a collaboration entitled "Guidance" with the artist, Rainforest. In 2017, she released “Seven Systems” a long anticipated 7 track EP on US label, Faction Digital Recordings;  “Salvation” on Junglist Resistance, a 31 track international jungle compilation and “Soundbwoy Haze” on Ruff N Rugged Vol 1 on Yeska Beatz Unlimited. In 2016 AwakeFM & Mizeyesis released “Convergence EP” (OMNIEP106) on Omni Music UK. She also released 2 tracks on the "Sea Jah EP" (HEX002) by Skru ft Mizeyesis on the label Hexagon Digital UK. She has plenty of scheduled projects to come in 2020.

Mizeyesis is US Manager for DNB Girls, an all female collective of artists, DJ, and MC's; 1/3 of the group, The Amen Ra Trifecta aka The Art a trio of MC Elijah Divine, Meszenjah and herself; and is also apart of MIA DNB & New England Junglists. 

Her whole life she was engulfed in expression from being a former professional dancer, to visual art, to learning & studying music at an early age, She has been djing since 2004, performed at many festivals (Beltek, Hydrotechnics, Revolt, Evolvefest, Wickerman Burn, The Winter Music Conference and many more) and prestigious nights not only in the US but around the world such as Respect (LA), Rupture (London), Elements (Boston), Konkrete Jungle (NYC), New England Junglists United (MA), DieHard on Decks (MA), Direct Drive (NYC), Natural Selection (NYC), Two:Tone (Dallas), MPLS (Minneapolis), MIA Kansas City (Missouri) and many other prestigious jungle/dnb nights. 

Mizeyesis has performed/toured/opened for many high profile artists & performers such as LTJ Bukem, Aphrodite, A-Sides, Remarc, SPY, Jumping Jack Frost, John B, Total Science, Breakage, Digital, Loxy, Double O, SB81 (Nolige), MSDOS, RAW aka 6Blocc, Liondub, Tony Touch, Reid Speed, Empress, Planet of the Drums (AK1200, Dara, Dieselboy & Messinian) and many more!

Metalheadz with Loxy and Digital - 15 July 2020

Oi oi.

I've thought about this many times, and have concluded that my favourite era of jungle music, hands-down, is the spring/summer period of 1994. 

To me it wasn't quite so apparent at the time - I wasn't venturing out to proper jungle nights until later that year, and my view was polarised by a monogamous record-buying relationship with artists and labels that I semi-religiously followed throughout 1993 - the likes of Dee Jay, Skanna, Moving Shadow, Basement and Reinforced. However, with the wisdom of hindsight, and particularly after listening to loads of summer sets from the likes of Brockie, Ron and Jack Frost, the melting pot of sounds is obvious and utterly wonderful. Ragga jungle was suddenly everywhere and yet there were still elements of hardcore/rave - uplifting pads, chipmunk diva vocals - throughout the music, with DJ sets effortlessly transitioning from Nookie to M-Beat, Foul Play to Brainkillers, Tek-9 to Kings of the Jungle. 

Simply put, it was a great time and this is my tribute to it. As ever, enjoy!

Hello all you beautiful people out there!! Welcome to episode 392 of The Everyday Junglist Podcast!

Episode 392 brings us a mix from a talented dj/producer out of the Netherlands, Yorobi!

Yorobi has collaborated with Tim Reaper on 2 firing releases on the labels Discworld and Parallax Recordings, one of which I am happy to say I own on vinyl:) Drumtree, what a tune! In addition to her releases, Yorobi hosts a bi-weekly show on jungletrain.net, Sunday's from 5-7 pm GMT, for us Americans on EST, that's 1-3 pm. The show is entitled, Polyclinique Redux, the next show will air on Sunday, August 9th, so, you better check it out!

Yorobi's mix is summertime, soulful vibes, melding old school tunes with newer, forthcoming tracks! The razor sharp breaks combining with heavy amens to mash things up! Check the track list for a new Yorobi tune in the pipeline! Yorobi crushes this mix!

Let's meet our selectah for this mix, Yorobi:
Yorobi (real name Josje Bijl) is an Amsterdam based dj who started out dj-ing in the 1999 after getting introduced to a pirate radio station (Nautic  Radio Groningen) in her home town of Groningen. 
What started out as hosting for a pirate radio station and getting well known dj’s to talk about their careers and random party goers to express inner ruminations, turned into her buying some records and to practice dj-ing in the studio of the radio station and at friends who had mk1210’s. 
Josje got her own show at the local pirate station and the shows focused strongly on Drum and Bass, Hip Hop & Electro, inviting guests from all over town and occasionally hosting the odd internationally known dj.  She debuted as a dj in the basement of Vera (a club in Groningen).  After that she played all over the country alongside local and internationally known dj’s , as well as in the UK & in Belgium.  In 2006 she relocated to http://jungletrain.net/ , where she’s still broadcasting her bi-weekly live show. 
You can catch her live in various bars and clubs around Amsterdam, mainly at OT301, Hill Street Blues, Melkweg, Hunters Grand Café or an illegal rave somewhere outdoors. She can be found more and more around Europe these days. This year she’s played in London for the legendary Rupture night as well as for a night called Deviate in Berlin. 
Yorobi’s style is fairly eclectic, ranging from introspective half time to (old skool & future) jungle, footwork & slowfast. Basically anything with heavily syncopated drums, lush pads and heavy bass lines. 
2020 sadly saw the cancellations of most of her gigs, but on the positive side also her debut as a producer, with two colabs being released on Parallax Recordings and Disc World alongside Tim Reaper.
