Episode 457 brings us a mix from R-Hawk!

R-Hawk's mix is full of classics from the golden era of jungle, amazing selection, expertly mixed, such a VIBE on this one!! This one will be getting tons of rewinds!

Let's meet our dj for episode 457, R-Hawk:
Robbie Hawkings, or R-Hawk for short, is a Bristol based DJ with 30 years behind the decks. 



First, learning to play at home in the early 90's, he shortly landed a regular spot at the UFO Club, held at the Longleat Estate near Warminster, as a warm up DJ in 1995. The UFO Club was known for having big acts roll through; from Grooverider and Jumping Jack Frost, to other acts, like Carl Cox and Eat Static. 



Moving to Sheffield in 1996, he continued playing regular shows, starting with the Corporation night club from 1999 to 2000, and then back in Bristol played at various club parties in venues like Thekla and Lakota, opening for The Insiders at TimBuk2 for Intrigue’s 2nd birthday party, and more recently, parties for Western Lore, Dissonance, Optimystic & Friends and Jungle on Wax.



R-Hawk's been playing on internet radio for around 7 years; his first few shows on GlobalDnB.com in 2015, then with OnlyOldSkoolRadio.com, where he's maintained a weekly show since 2018 and also joining the DJ roster for jungletrain.net in 2020 with his fortnightly Xpresha show. 



He's also part of the crew for a Facebook Group called, "The Junglist_list" or TJL for short, which is collective mix of EDM, embracing the sounds of Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass, Acid, Techno, House, and more.

"R-Hawk's selection preferences range from works originating in '92, all the way to present day, but for this podcast he has focused on old skool jungle."

Based in Manchester, Pod Imiya plays a mix of jungle and drum n bass styles from all eras, dropping in hardcore, IDM and sped-up electro. Pod Imiya’s sets are usually centred around rough breaks with dark but uplifting selection.

Starting out as a regular DJ at Hit & Run, she quickly went on to play at nights across the UK such as Rupture, License to Jungle, Chicken Shop Events and Sheffield-based night Anomalies, which showcases the wonkier side of 170bpm.

The Young Punx – Mashpop & Punkstep: DnB Mixes

The Young Punx team up with Croatian drum & bass powerhouse Kodin to reimagine tracks from their cult 2009 album Mashpop & Punkstep through a dark DnB lens.

At the centre of the EP is “Like Dat” (feat. Count Bass D) — a tough, neuro-tinged rework that blends heavyweight low-end with occasional Blade Runner-style synth atmospheres. Bronx-born indie-rap legend Count Bass D delivers surreal, coded verses — retelling The Young Punx’s tour stories in a hybrid of Tennessee/Atlanta slang and clipped London RP — over Kodin’s cinematic production.

Also included is Kodin’s reinvention of the ragga-tinged “Juice and Gin”, the remix that first caught The Young Punx’s ear and sparked the whole collaboration. His distinctive sound design and uncompromising grooves push the track into deeper, futuristic territory.

To complete the package, Phonat’s Punkstep Mix of “Ready For The Fight” is included — a rock-meets-drum & bass collision driven by distorted guitars, perfectly reflecting the culture-clash ethos of the original album. Previously released, it’s included here to round out the DnB collection.

Visuals for the release come from Dutch artist Han Hoogerbrugge, whose typographical chaos of lyrics set against pixelated sea creatures and cityscapes offers a uniquely abstract response to the music.

These 4 years were an important time for me personally and also when myself and my friends started hitting the Drum & Bass and Jungle events around London, Kent and Essex.

Sending this out to all the heads that reached and remember the haven that was Atomics in Maidstone, out to Jim and the Pure Science crew every time.

Its 2 years ago today we lost our man Duncan Busto aka Spirit. Feels like there's a big black empty hole where he used to be... (And there's a mahussive hole in my DJ sets too!!!) we all miss him! So back in Feb this year we had a cracking night for him @ Village Underground on Sunday 9th Feb 2020 featuring a quality line-up. Massive thanks to each & every DJ & MC who performed on the night, even our crew that couldn’t make it to the show due to the adverse weather & severe storms cancelling flights, trains & causing havoc on the roads…!

The fourth edition of our „first timer“ comes with a heavy heart. Gio aka Alite curated her first night in 2014 and invited him as her guest, the mighty Spirit. Such a humble guy, you’d never immagine the raw energy he’d express with his music and his DJ sets.   

Veni, vidi, vici - I think this summarizes his first appearance at Ambra Night. It had already been a week packed of many highlights. On the outdoor floor we just had LSB, Calibre and Marcus Intalex all in a row. Then somehow we all got magically drawn to the Indoor floor where Spirit just started the last set of the night. There was a such a high level of energy in the room, I remember us all looking at each other in a mix of euphoria and disbelief - how can this even go any better?! And he managed to draw one bomb after another in his distinct style, climaxing his way through that last power hour of the night. It was absolutely T for Tremendous to quote our good old friend MC GQ. Speaking of MCs, Blackeye and Double O where the perfect match for this set, and Blackeye became his MC of choice over the years. 

Spirit then joined us every year, he instantly became a part of the SUNANDBASS family. We truly miss him, he lives on in our hearts through his music.
