Kimbr - Flamethrower EP - Architecture Recordings - ARX102

Kimbr spent his 1990s youth banging drums in punk bands in Cheltenham. After being introduced to rave music in his late teens he found links between the quick tempos and blast beats of punk and the intricate breaks of dnb and jungle and relocated to Bristol to find out more about his new obsession. He was welcomed into the infamous Dissident collective and under the moniker Noisy Boy, began DJing on the Bristol warehouse party and club circuit, pushing amen driven, darkside techstep. Dissident put on their final epic party in 2010 but Kimbr continued DJing and in 2017 restarted his production journey. His tracks draw on influences from in and out of the dnb scene, bringing in the cinematic tension and dystopian aesthetic of science fiction, the swag of old skool hip hop and crushing basses reminiscent of guitar riffs, all contained within the recognisable sonics and structures of early 2000s drum and bass.

J:Kenzo and Basic Rhythm join forces on 'Strontium Dog / Mek Quake', landing on Metalheadz for the first time together with a release inspired by the iconic 2000 AD comic series. The project began with Basic Rhythm's idea to build tracks around characters from the comic, later bringing J:Kenzo into the fold to shape the drums and overall energy. The first track they completed, 'Mek Quake', was quickly signed by Goldie, with 'Strontium Dog' following soon after.

Across both cuts, the pair explore contrasting sides of drum & bass: 'Strontium Dog' rolls with tense, atmospheric precision, while 'Mek Quake' drives forward as a heavyweight stepper. Futuristic yet rooted in foundation, the release captures two producers united by both a shared love and vision for the sound.

Simple Souls bring the funk to drum & bass! In their music, they blend smooth grooves and massive basslines with live instruments, creating a vibey mixture nice to chill or dance to. Their tunes are regularly rinsed in sets of upfront DJs like Bryan Gee, London Elektricity, Jumpin’ Jack Frost, BCee or Dossa & Locuzzed.
They perform as a DJ act accompanied by a live horn section and vocalists, and their sets are as diverse as their productions.
