Episode 508 brings us an incredible back to back mix from two of my favorite producers, Jem One & SR. Both have done previous mixes for the podcast, but this time we get a special back to back mix combining their powers!

Jem's and SR's mix starts out with filthy rollers, patiently building the momentum throughout! The mix traverses through a grip of forthcoming exclusives and new tunes, the mix flips from filthy and deep rollers to amen business melding the two vibes flawlessly together! Jem & SR really outdid themselves on this one, you can hear the technicality and care they put into to creating a fantastic vibe!

1.Tell us about exciting upcoming releases and gigs you have coming up.

We’ve been working on an album for the past couple of years, so have had our heads down working on that. It’s certainly been a long crazy process but we’ve managed to produce more tracks than we need which are all finished, mixed etc: and we’re just in the process of picking which ones will go on the album. As we’ve got so much music sat there, we’ll be putting a monthly podcast together called “Jem One & SR The Blueprint”. Which we’ll be alternating shows monthly between ourselves and should be looking at starting this either later in the year or early next year featuring dubs and unreleased tracks plus loads more…

2. What are your favorite tracks the two of you have produced together?

Previously I would have said “The Hardcore” or “Trojan” but there are a couple of forthcoming DnB releases we are both really happy with called “Kinsuko” and “Cone Drone” plus for the album, we’ve been working with the amazing vocalist Sofi Mari on something that’s more like a Jazzy, Hip Hop soulful track.

3. Do you think zombies should be slow or fast? Why?

Haha! The obvious answer is slow but it would spice things up a bit and be more interesting if they were fast! I’d be interested to see if they had the ability to produce music! Zombie jungle could be quite dark!!!

Paul Kalkbrenner - Essential Mix (BBC Radio1) - 07-30-2011

Having shined a light on a number of lesser known DJs and producers, we now turn to one many people know and love: Mr Roman Flügel. The German producer has amassed a enviably varied discography over the last twenty years. With various different monikers from Acid Jesus to Eight Miles High, Warp69 to Alter Ego, he has turned out acid, techno, electro, IDM, artful electronic sounds and more unnamable genres beside. As well as co-founding three labels in Ongaku Musik, Klang Elektronik and Playhouse, he has released on Dial, Cocoon and Live At Robert Johnson, sis a veritable pillar of the global underground scene. 

The mix we have from him is a live recording of his set at Lente Kabinet from back in May 2015. As such it is a two hour ride through his singular sound that effuses colourful synth lines and kinked drums, at one moment gliding along an airy groove before then sinking down into a gritty and mechanical world of grinding gears and punchy kicks. Few DJs take as many risks, and pull them off as successfully as Flügel, so this is a real treat indeed.
