"Set You Free" is a song written and recorded by English rave band N-Trance, featuring vocals from English singer Kelly Llorenna. It was officially released as a single in October 1993 by label All Around the World but did not chart until a re-release in April the following year, just making the UK top 40 at number 39. Another re-release in January 1995 was much more successful, peaking at number two in the UK. Same year, it was included on the band's debut album, Electronic Pleasure (1995). Later, it was remixed and re-released in 2001, this time reaching number four. Its accompanying music video was directed by prolific music video director Steve Price.

Background
The song was inspired by a night out in the Haçienda in Manchester that N-Trance's Kevin O'Toole had in 1989. "They used to pass round pints of water, and a woman came up to me and I felt her heartbeat through her top," he said. "The songs created a diary of what was happening at the time."

Llorenna was only 16 when she recorded the vocals in 1992. She told Vice: "Kevin [O'Toole] and Dale [Longworth, the other member of N-Trance] came into my college and asked if anyone sung, and everyone replied 'Kelly sings!'" They later headed to O'Toole's bedroom studio to do a vocal demo. For Llorenna, her vocals "captured that childhood moment in time. It was just me and five lads in a transit van going up to Belfast or Glasgow every week, playing the song for petrol money." She claims that when people hear the opening of the song, which features thunder, lightning and rain, "their faces light up, and they're transported back to where they were."

The 1995 version of "Set You Free" was successful on the charts in Europe, peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart on February 5, 1995. It peaked at that position during its fifth week on the chart, being kept off the number-one position by Celine Dion's "Think Twice". The single spent a total of 15 weeks within the UK Top 100. It entered the top 10 also in Ireland and the Netherlands, as well as on the Eurochart Hot 100, where it peaked at number nine in its fifth week on the chart on February 18. On the European Dance Radio Chart, it peaked at number one on March 4, becoming the most played dance song on radio in Europe that week.[10] Additionally, "Set You Free" was a top-20 hit in Sweden and Switzerland, peaking at numbers 15 and 18, while in Germany, it became a top-50 hit. Outside Europe, the single was successful in Australia, where it reached number 11 on the ARIA singles chart, with 12 weeks inside the Australian top 20 and 21 weeks in total. It earned a gold record there, with a sale of 35,000 singles and a double platinum record in the UK, after 1,200,000 units were sold and streamed.

Despite its extensive history, Ram Records has seldom seen a story like Bensley’s. After a mysterious demo fell into the hands of its A&R team, the nineteen-year-old producer began his speedy rise to fame. Whether it was via premieres on Radio1 or Apple’s Beats online radio station, showcased by the likes of Mistajam and Zane Lowe, the boy wonder became a buzzword for the genre’s newer generation.

From first listen, it’s easy to see how Bensley was lifted from the internet’s deep pools. Fighting his way through a tide of baying competition, his music stood out and became an anomaly. And since his meteoric climb, the producer has gone from strength to strength. With tightly woven instrumentals that divulge a completely different paradigm to what we’re usual exposed to musically, he’s become celebrated for a sound which is difficult to imitate.

For his next output, Bensley flexes an even wider range of skill. He takes on the vocal talent of Skyelle, who utilizes her ranges to add an emotional flare between each layer of noise, delivering another notch to his bedpost whilst offer something completely different. Juxtaposing his debut album on Ram, its impressively divertive yet still channels the sonic personality he’s overseen from the beginning.
Here’s a single yet to open more doors for the artist… One only just beginning to blossom, despite his already significant prominence.

'Butterfly Effect' has finally dropped; after Koven teasing the LP throughout 2019 and the start of 2020, this has been coined as one of the most pivotal albums of this year. On first listen to its contents, track by track, it's easy to hear why this is. With fourteen selections to choose from, each one offers the sound which has been spearheaded by Koven from the beginning, despite being presented through different tempos and exploring the full versatility of their production. Whilst Max fronts the engineering, Katie has continually stunned crowds with her vocals and explosive DJ performances; it's this combination which has captivated audiences across the world, something that's now been perfectly packaged within their forthcoming album 'Butterfly Effect'.

With several singles acting as stepping stones for the LP's eventual release, there's already been a host of music that fans, both old and new, have been introduced to. Records like 'Yes', 'Followers', 'All for Nothing', 'Shut My Mouth', 'Give You Up', 'Your Pain' and 'Gold' have taken you through the motions of 'Butterfly Effect' with its unbridled diversity. Koven has demonstrated the standards which they've adhered to throughout its process, since its first reveal earlier in 2019.

However, the vast expanse of eye-watering new music highlights that Koven's work rate is second to none. With the cinematic drum & bass flavours of 'Worlds Collide' introducing 'Butterfly Effect', it's a precursor of what's to come, quickly followed by the album's soaring title-track. The James Bond inspired 'Speaking Through Smoke Detectors' takes you through a movie soundtrack soundscape whilst the emotive current of 'For Me' delivers a different twist to their usual bass-heavy undercurrents, alongside the switched up tempo of 'Stars'.

Katie Koven's incredible vocal textures ring through tracks like 'Missing' and you're made aware of her incredible artistry from start to finish. Meanwhile, the sweeping layers of 'Surely You Know', which draws the album to a close, creates a powerful stirring of emotions, encapsulating what it means to deliver music with soul. 'Butterfly Effect' isn't just an album of tracks; it's a journey through the hearts and minds of Koven. Released through Monstercat and premiered at Europe's biggest bass music party, Rampage Festival, Koven are about to debut 'Butterfly Effect' on the world stage, whilst taking you along for the ride.
