Bait’s second VEP (Various EP) is a 4-track dive into a rather modern phenomenon: 150 dubstep, as DJs and crowds seem to be enjoying the faster bass sounds, yet broken rhythms and heavy halftime pulses. For this release, we’ve got L.A.’s rising bass-music talent Carré, who specialised in racing wobblers, and recently released her debut solo EP on her label FAW (Fast at Work). Track 2 is by UK-born Berlin-based Formella. This is the Femme Bass Mafia member’s first-ever release. The Third track is by Fast Castle label captain Gent1le $oul, also Berlin-based and pushing hybrid dubstep in the German capital with hot vinyl releases and parties. Last but not least, SPLT’s mental banger “Grill Party” that Beatrice M. happened to discover in Laksa’s Truant podcast and reached out after dropping an “ID?” comment on SoundCloud. The Lyon-based producer never misses, his tracks have been played out multiple times by Garçon and Agonis, in the continuity of merging bass and techno.

Local Action is very proud to present Rushing 1621, the first EP from a transatlantic meeting of minds and styles from two of our favourite artists: Om Unit and James Bangura. 

Based in Bristol, Om Unit is a titan of UK soundsystem music, pulling footwork, hip-hop, jungle, bass, techno, breaks and more into wild new shapes across an illustrious 15-year plus career.

DC’s James Bangura meanwhile has emerged as one of the most exciting artists on America’s east coast, releasing solo heat on labels like Incienso and !K7 and regularly touring the world as part of the Black Rave Culture collective, drawing from regional club styles across the States. 

The EP’s title Rushing 1621 is a reference to both artists’ area codes, so UK-meets-US synergy is the name of the game here (and if you know Local Action, you probably already know that this sort of thing is our catnip). Garage, house, breaks and even moments that recall early ‘00s proto-dubstep and dub-techno are all present, but really, it’s both artists’ immaculate drums and flawless production that drives this thing. Some records just feel unimpeachable, and this is one.

Influenced by her current Florida home, Arina straddles the long stamped history of Florida breaks and modern day experimental club music. With this body of work, Arina carves her own path of zany eccentricities, emotive solitude & club kinship, while paying homage to the influential club scene that shaped the breakbeats we know today. 

The sounding of Scattered materialized during a time Arina was fuzing the old and new elements of self. She funneled the overwhelm of feeling "scattered" & torn into this EP. We feel the energetic push and pull throughout this body of work in her quest for clarity & connection.
