Morphing from hip-hop breakbeat into chunky deep house groove, the hypnotic bassline and muted guitar, give a jazz-tinged flavour to 'Blessed'. Third Attempt keeps that live feeling rolling throughout, layering chopped R&B vocals and shimmering keys to add to the ever-infectious vibe.

As well-equipped at soundtracking the hazy hues of a sunset, as it is powering a dancefloor at peak time, 'Blessed' is warmth and weight in equal measure, served up in signature Third Attempt style.

Not only is mike "father of the year", but he also has records. Deep crates, as they say. MIKE FEEL LOVE will keep the chin scratchers at bay for a while, seeing as the original cover has zero internet presence. It will also keep the dancers happy. A scrappy little edit keeping the sloppy instrumentation in tact, because it's the best part of the song. Drums fall out of time, or drop out altogether. The synth arps fall out of synch which makes you wonder if that's an arpeggiator, or some maniac playing live. The other side is a very old edit Mike dusted off and is guaranteed to make the chin scratchers take a bathroom break- seeing as it is a top 40 hit from the 70s. Which doesn't mean it's not a burner.

Long-serving disco-house fusionist Hot Toddy (AKA Crazy P co-founder Chris Todd) is in a loved-up mood on this rather tasty three-tracker. Surprisingly, it's his first solo single for some five years, and his first for House of Disco. It's the breezy, funk-fuelled A-side "In The Genes", in which Todd expertly fuses together elements most often found in proto-house, NYC boogie, early house and disco-funk records, that stands out, though the standard naturally remains high elsewhere. "Love Music", for example, is a wonderfully sauced-eyed stroll through dreamy deep house/disco fusion, while closer "Love Can Set You Free" sits somewhere between stripped-back disco-house, percussive boogie and Idjut Boys style dub disco.

‘Shine (This Is It)’ is the first single from Soul Clap’s self-titled second album that features legendary vocalist Nona Hendryx. After Ray met Charles and Eli when all played at LA party institution A Club Called Rhonda this happened..!

Nona Hendryx is an original member of the trio Labelle who’s smash single “Lady Marmalade” is a timeless classic. Her solo singles “Transformation” and “Do What You Wanna Do” from the 80’s are equally prolific to her work as a back-up vocalist for a laundry list of legendary acts including Parliament-Funkadelic, Talking Heads and Peter Gabriel.

There is magic contained in ‘Shine (This Is It)’ and the strength in Hendryx's vocal empowers our sprits and moves us on the dancefloor. Midnight Magic’s Morgan Wiley delivers an outstanding keyboard solo and fellow bandmate Jason Disu teams up with Kalí Rodríguez and No Regular Play’s Greg Paulus to form the Soul Clap horn section.

Taking the magical vocals, horns and keyboard solo from the original, Ray Mang gives it a latin house twist adding an elevating Rhodes motif, bass and battery. Presented here in three versions on 180gram vinyl.
