Dude Skywalker - Playa Vibes Mix 2016

I'm happy to finally release my first extended set with you, recorded at StereoBar in Montreal. StereoBar is a club that's quickly jumped onto my shortlist of favorite venues in the world. Beyond the nailing the club fundamentals (sound system, layout, lighting, staff), they feature the "All Night" series where one DJ plays as opener, headliner, and closer. I love this format since it gives me the opportunity to build the energy from scratch and take the night in any direction without constraints.

But more importantly, I get to play for one of the most enthusiastic, supportive crowds that I've ever encountered. The energy from this night was the strongest I've felt in quite some time, certainly my best gig of the last year. Almost everything I threw out there worked, which actually makes me think that I might not have worked hard enough. There are many more sonic landscapes I'd love to explore, so hopefully I can come back again soon and we can take another journey in that special room...

Having grown up in Mallorca, listening to IBIZA SONICA RADIO, it's a real honour to make a guest mix of almost entirely original material (including a couple of unreleased tracks) for When We Dip that was broadcast live on the air (92.4FM in the Balearic Islands) and on the Ibiza Sonica website.

For the entirety of my career up until now, I think I feared playing my own songs in sets and mixes because I felt they were inadequate when compared to what inspired me. I spent so much time trying NOT to listen to electronic music that I developed a void in between what I loved to listen to and what I loved to make. It's only natural to view your work as 'lesser' when comparing house music to the Motown greats. That being said, lately I feel that I've found it in myself to let go and see what I do for what it is - and what it isn't - in turn taking the pressure off for me to live up to these impossible standards that I've set for myself and focus on creating for the love of it.

After finishing this mix I sat in the sunshine and mindfully listened through with a loose ear and an open heart, and I'm happy to say that I AM PROUD of the music I make and that I will do everything I can to continue living a life dedicated to the creation of things I love.

As the ever-turning partysphere whirls on its axis year to year, there are few events that continue to bewitch, challenge and enthrall like those devised by Damian Lazarus. Whether it’s the globe trotting Get Lost party series or the site specific pioneering festival Day Zero, Lazarus has always managed to create other-worldly environs, soundtracked by cutting edge talent.

It’s been thirteen years since Damian Lazarus’ Get Lost touched down in Miami, in that time the context of March in Miami has irrevocably changed, indeed as has Get Lost itself, but the party’s ethos remains the same; an alternate offering to the rest of Miami Music Week’s programming, in which participants may lose touch with time and where artists may perform as their most authentic selves. From sunup to sundown and into the night’s darkest hours Get Lost is a musical odyssey that for over a decade has drawn followers of underground electronic music from all four corners of the globe.

In 2018 Get Lost continues its own evolution, from its first incarnation thirteen years ago as a intimate after-hours, to its most recent iteration as one of the world’s foremost immersive assembling points of underground talent, this year over 50 acts will perform in a brand new location. 2018’s theme sees attendees transported through the environs of Lost Mythical cities, realms dear and familiar to Lazarus, and a fitting context for the sonic adventurers and pilgrims drawn to explore the world of Get Lost.

Thirteen years since it first touched down, Get Lost remains as vital as ever, an alternative beacon for those seeking to escape the hubris of Miami Music Week, and a global touch-point in the underground electronic music community’s calendar.

I'm happy to share the audio recording pulled from my live video stream at the Mixmag Lab, NYC (my new home!) My track selections for this one were intended toe the line somewhere between a club gig and a headphones listening mix since there were 100 people on the dance floor but 1000's of people listening at home. These Mixmag Labs tend to reach a wide audience of dance music enthusiasts around the world, so I also made a point to try and showcase a little range of what I'm playing these days. I tend to find those kinds of sets the most fun anyway. Thanks Mixmag + WAV for hosting me
