Dutch duo Juju & Jordash join forces with the pioneering German house producer Move D to form Magic Mountain High, an experimental disco amalgam of rich synth melodies and happily meandering housey beats. Move D (David Moufang) has made analog-oriented electronic music since the mid-90s on labels like Warp, Workshop, Modern Love, his own Source Records and others, remixed Fabric 74 in 2014, is a mainstay of the Freerotation festival in Wales, and collaborates with Jonah Sharp as Reagenz. Juju & Jordash (Gal Aner and Jordan Czamanski) moved from deep-jazz electronic experimentation to a faster-paced, cerebral-techno within Amsterdam’s club scene, recording on Dekmantel and Golf Channel – in 2013, they closed MUTEK with a set that still inspires mention. Magic Mountain High’s first release, Workshop XX, contained so many elements of fast-moving improvisation that no one could deny the trio’s focus on crafting a continuously-entertaining live set. The latest EP, Tiny Breadcrumbs, takes a more studied turn, its beat and melodic changes are moody and subtle even with three men at each song’s helm, but the heightened feeling of live performance, with its wild extended highs and serene deep-listening moments, still permeates each song.
