Austin—as you've no doubt heard before—is the Live Music Capital of the World. A whole network of celebrated institutions dot the map of the city's famous music scene and these places have become the well-loved and well-chronicled musical heart of the city.

But beyond this known map are the vibrant musical margins: the front porches and backyards, dive bars and churches, garages and community centers where people make music in a more communal and informal way.

The Austin Music Map is a participatory documentary media project that explores Austin's diverse sonic geography, creating portraits of the interesting, surprising, and unexpected venues & spaces where musical communities gather. 

Anyone can contribute to this project by submitting audio, photos, and video collected at musical spaces—formal and informal alike—around the city. The Austin Music Map is brought to you by lead producer Delaney Hall, in collaboration with KUT Austin (www.kut.org) and Localore (www.localore.net)—a national initiative of the Association of Independents in Radio (AIR).
