STDM continues down the path of relationships, love and loss, with this somewhat dreary and meandering original piece depicting an early morning departure...

In my mind, this tune channels, to some degree, The Smiths, Simple Minds, The Doors... a wee bit of Nirvana... a taste of 70s Garage Rock... is there anything else YOU hear here?

Again the Supersonic Tartan Death Machine moves in the most random directions, and hey, that's how I like it. I tell you, I was supposed to be taking a break from making iOS music...for a bit... and then I pull out my iPad and start strumming in GarageBand on the guitars... and next thing you know I have a song... I need to hide my iPad!

As we approach the 2nd full year of Supersonic Tartan Death Machine music, I think "multi genre" is the best way to describe what I am doing, as there are no real constants, except perhaps the sound of the bagpipes. It's been a real hoot working on these, I keep learning more and more about recording, sound engineering and so on. The further I go, I start to feel as though I am getting deeper and deeper into all facets of electronic music making... and oddly the process seems to be getting easier in many ways...

I was looking out the window, during a snowstorm, and saw two large crows across the street, fighting over something bloody... right then and there I thought it would be interesting to attempt to write a song called "Two Black Crows in the Snow"... then it became "Two Crows in the Snow"... then it became just "Two Crows".

The song is a discussion between two carrion birds, an almost philosophical discussion of the plight of their kind... and their existence in the grand scheme of things. "I rend therefore I am"...

Supersonic Tartan Death Machine is serving up another incredible bagpipe-driven cover song, this time it is the iconic "Riders On The Storm" by The Doors. My love and respect for this band has no end. They were a band of my youth...

This track was an incredible journey. Again... it was something I really though to be quite impossible to pull off... with bagpipes. Again, I spent the whole Xmas holiday studying this song... and thinking of a way to arrange it, to give it justice. The bridge was definitely inspired by one of my favorite bagpipe/jazz/fusion bands from the 80s/early 90s, Rare Air. LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! Thanks to the noisy patrons of the food court at Carrefour Angrignon for the background chatter.

Guy Mauseth @duke21 is playing his Fender Geddy Lee jazz bass again, with Audiobus, Jamup and Magellan in effect slot... many thanks to The Duke of Thunder for his awesome playing and input!

This is the story of a guy who goes to visit his girlfriend at her place in a small Quebec town near the US border… out in the farms… he gets there to find that things aren’t going down like he planned. He leaves the party in a drunken stupor, as people tend to do sometimes… (not condoning DUI here but) he heads out, trying to make his way back home. It is late fall and he figures it should be an easy and safe drive. 13 miles out he finds himself lost in the backroads, and Winter 2013-14’s first major snowstorm… his car breaks down, he falls asleep… and in the morning. Nothing… but… WHITE...

White Out

As I said to Guy Mauseth, "anger keeps me focused". This track is kind of an alt rock power ballad. To me the lyrical stylings are very REM-ish, a band I used to listen to through most of the 80s and 90s...

The lyrics are poignant and acidic. You can possibly understand what it is to know people such as these. It is for this that we must remain vigilant, well read, educated and never let our guards down in case of abuse... or exploiters... It is the story of "haves", "have nots", and how the former will walk up a staircase of faces of others to get to where they are. As in "Medicated Society", https://soundcloud.com/supersonictartandeathmachine/medicated-society,  this song is a sad report on humanity and it's priorities...
