Los Angeles-based public radio station KCRW is one of the most respected and progressive radio stations in the world, featuring an eclectic mix of independent music, NPR news, talk and arts programming. 
 

Moshi Moshi Records started off as a hobby in 1998. Set up by three friends who had jobs working for major record labels. It was intended as a way of working with the bands that they loved but which didn’t fit in with the agenda of the day-job taskmasters. Early single releases from Zan Lyons, Kathryn Williams & Pedro and J Xaverre earned the label some plaudits. And sold a few records. Over the next five years Moshi Moshi slowly started to build a reputation for interesting, slightly leftfield, low-key releases. Then in 2004 things changed. For a start Moshi stopped being a hobby and became a fulltime job. Very soon after, Hot Chip and Bloc Party arrived and Moshi Moshi quickly became a name known to more than a few. Chart success followed with Yeti and The Rakes and higher-profile album releases from Architecture In Helsinki and Au Revoir Simone helped lift the label onto a new level. Then from 2006 onwards came artists such as Hot Club De Paris, Tilly And The Wall, The Wave Pictures, Slow Club, James Yuill, The Drums, Summer Camp, the list goes on.

In late 2006 the two remaining Moshi Moshi founders decided they wanted to get back to their one-off 7” release roots and the Moshi Moshi Singles Club was born. The intention was to try and release one 7” each month by a new up-and-coming artist. It would be limited to 1000 and only be available in a select group of indie stores. The artwork would be restricted to one colour and be designed by the bands themselves. Now some 40+ releases later the singles club’s roster makes an impressive list – (including) Kate Nash, Late of The Pier, Friendly Fires, Lykke Li, Florence and The Machine, Kindness, Dananananayckroyd. Disclosure. In 2011 Moshi Moshi expanded its remit by partnering up with some very talented young A&R folk to set up the imprints Tender Age, Not Even, Apricot and Dream Beach. Working under the Moshi Moshi umbrella these new labels have already yielded a clutch of exciting releases by artists from as far afield as Kenya and Seattle.

At the same time as running the record label Moshi Moshi Management has been quietly guiding the career of Metronomy and Slow Club as well as producers Ash Workman and Ollie Bayston. From 2012 this side of the business started to expand dramatically and now features a sizeable roster of emerging artists.

Looking back on the Moshi Moshi roster (particularly since the label ‘went fulltime’ in 2004) it’s a collection that bears comparison with any of its peers. For a label run by two people with no financial backing, it’s nothing short of an inspiration.

Composer, pianist, and keyboardist Wayne Horvitz performs extensively throughout Europe, Japan, and North America.  He is leader and principal composer for the quartet Sweeter Than the Day in addition to Gravitas Quartet and the Royal Room Collective Music Ensemble, and performs regularly as an improviser on both piano and electronics. Past ensembles include The President: the Horvitz, Morris, Previte Trio: Pigpen; Zony Mash; The New York Composers' Orchestra; Ponga and The Four Plus One Ensemble.
As a composer, Horvitz has been commissioned by The Kitchen, The Kronos Quartet, Brooklyn Academy of Music, New World Records, The Seattle Chamber Players and Earshot Jazz.  He has received commissioning grants from Meet the Composer, The National Endowment for the Arts, Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, The N.Y. State Arts Council, The Mary Flagler Carey Trust, The Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund and The Fund for U.S. Artists.  Recent premieres include the V Series for chamber orchestra, Mountain Language for string quartet (2001) and Whispers, Hymns and a Murmur (2004) and These Hills of Glory (2006) for string quartet and soloist. He was awarded a Rockefeller MAP grant for the creation of Joe Hill: 16 Actions for Chamber Orchestra and Soloist (2004). His composition “For Piano Alone, In Four Parts” was premiered by pianists Cristina Valdes at the Nordstrom Recital Hall in 2009 He was awarded a MAP grant in 2010 for “55: Music and Dance In Concrete”, a site specific collaboration with choreographer Yukio Suzuki, video artist Yohei Saito and producer Tucker Martine which premiered in September 2012 at Centrum (WA) and the ASU Museum of Art. His hour-long song cycle “Smokestack Arias”, based on the events of the Everett Massacre, was premiered at Act Theater for 2 weeks in February of 2012. He is the recipient of the 2008 NEA American Masterpieces Award.

As a sideman and collaborator he has performed and recorded with Billy Bang, Carla Bley, Curlew, Marty Ehrlich, Bill Frisell, Fred Frith, Robin Holcomb, Butch Morris, David Moss, Bobby Previte, Elliott Sharp, Michael Shrieve, Ikue Mori, Kazutoki Umezu, Skerik, Briggan Krauss, Steven Bernstein, Philip Wilson and John Zorn (Naked City, Cobra, etc.), among others. He has produced records for the World Saxophone Quartet, Human Feel, Fontella Bass, Marty Ehrlich, John Adams, Bill Frisell, Robin Holcomb, and Eddie Palmieri. In film and theater he has collaborated with, among others, Carey Perloff, Bill Irwin, EMP, Gordon Edelstein, Gus Van Sant, Dayna Hanson and Paul Magid. 

Le 14 octobre 1995 Tryo fait son premier concert. La rencontre de Guizmo  et Manu Eveno, du groupe M'Panada, avec Christophe Mali, jeune musicien et comédien, est complétée par l’arrivée du percussionniste Daniel Bravo dès 1996. Uni par la musique et les idéaux, le groupe parcourt plus d’un quart de siècle de carrière. De Mamagubida (1998) à leurs deux derniers albums XXV (2020) et Chants de Bataille (septembre 2021), Tryo évolue sur le fil original d’un reggae fervent, frondeur, festif et militant. En 2021, après un long chemin de vingt-six ans à parcourir les routes, les studios et les scènes, le moment arrive pour Emmanuel Eveno, chanteur et guitariste, de quitter l’aventure. Mais ceci pas sans, encore une fois, laisser au groupe sa patte musicale et des souvenirs heureux. Tryo, à trois, à quatre… Tryo à nous tous ! Aujourd’hui comme hier, leurs chansons politiques, harmonieuses et souvent optimistes nous rappellent toujours, qu’au fond, rien n’a vraiment changé: il y a toujours des batailles à mener.
