Billy Kenny and Abby Jane make their Dirtybird debut with 'I Operate,' a house rumbler coming right out of Hanover, Germany by way of Leeds. The Dirtybird crew has had their eye on Billy Kenny ever since his track 'Work' ripped through the party at last year's Dirtybird BBQ series. 

The leading hypnotic vocal sample states simply, "(at night) I operate" - effortlessly evoking imagery of being beamed up by an alien ship on a dark city street. As the track builds, wobbling basslines, echoes, and scorching white noise cascade into a perfect blend of dance floor bliss.

Just when you think you know what you're in for, the switch up hits hard and fast, catching even the most seasoned dance floor veteran off guard. Unpredictable high-hats and low-end oscillations will send you into a tizzy of irresistible booty shaking before the beat drops out and the reverbed vocals leave you yearning for more. Before you know it, the track is building again into a stomper.

'The Chord March' falls in line next. A slow-building groove draws you in then changes up around the one minute mark, only to build you up again before bringing in a symphony of sounds. A rthymic delight that's perfectly seasoned with a tasteful 'uh' sample results in a tune that's as fun as it is irresistibly catchy. This one is perfect for afterhours dance floors.

These two are a force to be reckoned with on the dance floor and you can expect to have your brain frequently rattled by Billy Kenny and Abby Jane in 2015!

As the last couple in the "Selected Vinyls" series, I am focusing on the UKG-era - here of the alltime brilliant producer Steve Gurley. As the first volumes revolved around the beats and bass from El-B, he himself is earlier cited for "There were no influences in that scene for me at the time [around year 2000], only Steve Gurley", so on that note, the mixtape in front of you displays Steve Gurleys work inside a UK garage frame. Next up for our Outlook 2013 mix series is an exclusive mix from the Don - Hatcha. The musical heavyweight comes strong with a classic selection of garage classics. His Outlook garage sets are thing of legend and this mix was never going to disappoint. 

Hatcha’s roots seep deep back into late ‘90s UK garage, Croydon and pirate radio. Originally the buyer at the now defunct Big Apple record shop, Hatcha was one of the very first DJs to pick up on the new dark strains of 2step that were being made by local producers like El-B, Artwork and Horsepower at the turn of the millennium. 

As the garage sounds from south London began to take on their own unique, dark swung direction, it became clear that the nascent scene needed a home. In 2001 Forward>>, dubstep’s founding club, started with Hatcha a resident. 

In 2003 he even played a part in naming the genre. Amidst the scene’s key players: the Big Apple camp and Ammunition who ran Forward>> and Tempa, the term “dubstep” (from dubby 2step garage), began being circulated. Hatcha was then asked to mix the scene’s first compilation that cemented the use of the name: Dubstep Allstars vol 1.

A firm favourite of the SnS crew, Eliza is one of those DJs with the ability to have her style translate into whatever genre she plays. One of Londons finest selectors, you can find her regularly on your airwaves, whether that be spreading her recent Funk and Soul Digs as heard on her Balamii show, or playing upfront House and Garage on her Rinse FM residency (which has featured Perception, Ollie Rant, and OK Williams as guests in the past).
