Our first mix of 2023 falls into the hands of Seb Wildblood, one of the UK underground dance scene's most ubiquitous figures. Known for heading up labels such Church, Coastal Haze and all my thoughts, the latter featuring some of dance music’s finest up-and-comers like Cameo Blush, Tom VR, mauv and more, Wildblood is also a decorated producer in his own right and is kicking off the year with a new 3-track EP 'vitara 3000'. 

Blending sounds of nostalgia, broken beat, and euphoric melodies, the sounds percolating Seb's upcoming project inform his exclusive DMY Mix - one hour of vibrant, frenetic party anthems to see you through the cold weather.

Geoff Kirkwood is an artist for the people - not so concerned with image, status or even legacy he’s a creative who is as comfortable writing or presenting experimental symphonies and Audio Visual orchestral performances as he is delivering raucous kinetic techno to sweaty dance floors. 

Filling the spaces between his eclectic output, Kirkwood's work as Man Power has become some of his most meaningful and potent. The project began all the way back in 2014 as an anonymous series of dark remixes which culminated in a debut EP on Correspondant. Via his Man Power alias, Geoff has since gone on to show the complete picture of his sonic breadth via output for the likes of DFA, SKINT, Hivern Discs and his self-helmed Me Me Me imprint. Not just satisfied with making music, his acclaimed Us & Them parties have been reversing the grubby trends of club-night promotion, ditching advance tickets and corporate mentality in place for a focus on regional talent regardless of profile. 

Recorded live in Newcastle while opening for Leftfield's tour earlier this month, this DMY mix shows Man Power's selector skills at their very best. Spanning over two hours in length, strap in for a real journey from start to finish.

The term "legend" is thrown around a lot these days - but it's exactly how Carl Craig should be described. A second generation Detroit techno icon largely responsible for exporting the genre around the globe and connecting it to the worlds of high-art and culture, Craig has been at the forefront of music and culture for three decades and counting. 

Out now via his storied Planet E Communications label, Carl has revisited a timeless track from his early 90s Psyche alias, 'From Beyond', which offers a window into the simplistic production that helped define the early Afro-futuristic visions of Detroit techno. A seminal track in every sense of the word, it's rumoured that Craig created the track on the exact same Alesis controlled midi-808 used by Marvin Gaye on 'Sexual Healing'.  

To celebrate the 2023 edition of 'From Beyond' (available to stream here), Carl has teamed up with Ernie Guerra of Planet E to helm the latest DMY mix. 

"This mix was prepared by Erno (Ernie Guerra from Planet E), he chose a bunch of tracks he has heard me play throughout the years of traveling with me and a few others from his collection," says Carl. "The mix features my new C2 2023 mix of ‘From Beyond,’ originally composed in 1989. It was daunting to revisit ‘From Beyond’ because I wanted to make a mix that was better than the original. When I wrote ‘From Beyond,’ I was 20 years old and it was my first time in Europe, so I was excited. It was also a time when I used to compose many pieces per day, which now in all my wisdom and maturity, I take more time to compose with perfection in mind." 

He adds: "My new mix is a remix in the traditional sense, compared to what I do when I'm hired to remix. I’m happy to have revisited the original of ‘From Beyond,’ which gave me a chance to re-evaluate what I had done in 1989 versus how I do things now in 2023."

UK Funky ones to watch, co-owner of Articulate Ali McK and fellow Articulate don IYZ step up for a Funky take on Daze Prism’s anthem, ‘2005’.

The duo keeps the feel of the track perfectly before making it their own and implementing big samba hits, UK Funky percussion and a big bassline before bringing in a captivating, trippy flute to bring out some colourful carnival vibes.
