'How U Feel' is the first single announcing the return of the Franco-Argentinian producer Loverground with his second EP My Love Is True. This first song, opening of this new EP is composed of an airy melody put on a heady rhythm that announces the house and r&b inspirations that we find throughout the opus while evoking the troubles of love.

Over the last couple of years, Christopher Rau has built a reputation as the finest ear canal masseuse in the contemporary house music scene, catching the attention of fellow Hamburger DJ Koze who has recruited him for this new three-track EP. 

Rau’s debut full-length Asper Clouds, released in the fall, was noted for straddling the line between “club” and “headphone” music, earning 4 out of 5 stars from Resident Advisor along the way, and now, with the How Are You EP, he follows up to further explore his sonic approach: an assault of subtlety.

“Pervading Animal” is built upon a solid foundation of familiar rhythm box elements, but like vines and moss, the sedating sounds of strings and keys envelop the empty spaces, showing Christopher Rau’s ability to combine the artificial and the organic into something transcendent. Then, on the flip side, he lets his weirdness factor shine. At first, “C F R” sounds like by-the-numbers Muppet New Age, but graduates with distinction as the meowing synth squiggles saunter over the basketball beat. The EP denouements with “How Are You Today”, marked by a toasty chord progression that’s playfully trying to compose itself as the track moves forward, turning science fiction into science fact. You want to believe.

I'm really excited to bring you this remix album - I was lucky to get many of my favourite producers in the world involved in the project, and they have delivered an amazing range of music, it's a bit silly actually, how good this release is!

I was originally planning to separate it out into several releases, but when I brought all the remixes together I realised it could make an LP of it's own. I tried to order the tracks to provide some flow in this respect, from the beautiful ambience and downtempo sounds of Christian Löffler and Tom Hodge, to Rival Consoles brooding synth epic, into Vessels Aside broken melodic club track, Kimyan Law's beautifully detailed jungle break masterpiece, Patrice Baumel's massive techno remix, Ash Koosha's twisted electronica vision of Kathrin de Boerr, JoeFarr's apocalyptic darkroom disaster, John Tejada's melodic analogue beauties to wind down a little, and Hidden Orchestra's symmetrically structured huge ebb and flow remix of Symmetry to close. So much great work in there, I hope you have time to listen through and enjoy it as much as I do! And massive thanks to Christian, Tom, Ryan, Vessels, Nico, Pat, Ash, Joe, John and Hidden Orchestra for your work on this.

Jeannel’s “Lullaby” has an embalming effect: Following a brief moment of disorder, soundtracked by sirens on the track’s opening seconds, the 2018 Academy alumna’s exceptional voice deftly soothes its listeners into submission. Her lyrics reflect this sense of easing and sheltering as well, and even though the R&B-inflected tune blossoms into something much bigger than it initially lets on, a gentle mood permeates its every facet.

Rooted in jazz but not limited to, Ishmael Ensemble are a Bristol-based collective of nine members whose psychedelic, cosmic explorations into the sound have won them fans in Carl Craig and Caribou. Led by saxophonist and producer Pete Cunningham aka Ishmael, the crew are set to release debut album, ‘A State of Flow’, this May. With influences as varied as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Radiohead and Roni Size, the genre-spanning group have produced a record that dances around the boundaries of jazz, house, dance and beyond. An expansive slice of jazz-coloured house shuffle, ‘Lapwing’ is a builder that explodes into a percussive workout (which can be attributed to group member Rory O’Gorman on drums).
