February 2023 DIAMC prompt was to write a song inspired by a name, which was to be included within the title. 

Yesterday I sat down, wrote and recorded, this song about - and for - my beautiful almost, almost always friend. We met when I was 9 and she was 10.

Annmarie was a very close friend for a period in my life where I was generally feeling sorry for myself and often not the greatest person to hang out with. Annie, as I always called her, was a very dear friend during that time. Yet, when I went on to marry and raise a family, Annie became more and more isolated herself and it seemed I couldn’t keep our old friendship as it once so wonderfully was. When she passed away, too soon, these words came to me and I remember her often with a smile, straight talk and always a helping hand. Something I should have shown greater appreciation for when I had the chance.

This is a crude recording from my iPhone complete with background noise and such, but it was the first time I played it and decided it was what should be preserved despite its warts. I over-dubbed the harmonies and harmonica.
