This song brings me way back to a simpler more complex time. I was learning about the differences in life, like between lust and love, Lou Reed and Uriah Heep, trying to discern truth from lies. Yup, this song brought me back to a dark place that had this tiny flickering light that I never took my eyes off of. It is still flickering but much closer and brighter. I love the song, it made that light flicker like hell.

I would add that this can be true of old friends, too. Bitter sweet realities that challenge our abilities of acceptance. Good song topic and you've treated it just right.

La tendresse des coups ( DelhyA - Régis GAUBERT & JIM ) TRANSLATED

In 2018, I did a SoundCloud collaboration with @clive-hawkins after one of his tracks inspired me to write lyrics over his haunting instrumental 'After the Bomb'.

Clive had posted the line "let us not forget the consequences............of unleashing weapons of mass destruction!", and that comment, coupled with listening to his moody track, had me writing the complete lyrics inspired by his music in about 1.5 hours.

In 2025, I am currently working with accomplished keyboard player and Prog Rock enthusiast @Dee-Zee (Dave Zeitlin), to create an Ethno-Prog album 'Beyond the Veiled Horizon'.

So when I recently re-heard the old collaboration I wondered if Dave's keyboard wizardry could add a whole new dimension to the lyrics. The message in the lyrics has perhaps has even more urgency in 2025.

Using Clive's harmonic rhythm that inspired the melody, that inspired the lyrics, I basically gave Dave a blank slate to see what he could come up with as parts. As usual he delivered some amazing ideas and playing and this left me re-assembling this Redux version of the collaboration. Once again, I made use of the Alto vocal talents of 'Mrs Bouzouki' in a vocal harmony section and as part of some harmony stacks. Towards the end, the additional female backing lines are from the Soundiron 'Voices of Gaia' collection featuring the vocal talents of Linda Strawberry.

I feel the addition of a church organ really added to the track. As a result I removed a choir part I added in the original collaboration and added some low strings to add some weight to the bottom end in places. Besides piano, Dave also added some synth pads to keep things interesting during what is quite a long track. I hope that people can hear why I enjoy working with Dee Zee. I think he's done a fantastic job with this track.

I decided to keep my original vocal takes from 2018 but I feel the track has benefited from my improved mixing and production techniques. 

I feel that once again this track is a great example of how music can be created using the SoundCloud platform. A collaboration can build on a collaboration to create something bigger than the sum of the parts. Thanks @clive-hawkins for being the catalyst for this and @dee-zee for your compositional skill and playing. 

As a follow-up to this song you can watch this movie on the Internet Archive, produced in 1969 about the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombs of 1945. Some of the imagery is not for the faint-hearted.

After The Bomb - Redux 2025 (89 Seconds To Midnight)

7am on a spring morning at Blessington Lakes in County Wicklow and all was still, suddenly i heard the most amazing sound that broke the silence, 2 amazing white swans flew out of the mist with such gracefulness and power it took my breath away, i wrote this song to try and capture the beauty and style of these amazing birds.
this is my fist ever instrumental . I hope you like it.

This song began as an idea Tez came up with on his guitar while on holiday not far from his home in Wales. It had such a solid form, it inspired Mark to write lyrics and come up with vocal melodies within a few days of hearing it for the first time. The two of them have written several songs like this, making them a solid songwriting source for Eclectic Collective.

Once the song had a even more solid form, Ken took added his dynamic, bouncy-groove drums to it. As soon as Ken had the drums down, Josh took his turn, adding the fretless bass and solidifying the groove. Now that the basic framework was done, Stephen added his thrilling electric guitar. Last, but certainly not least, JJ added his really cool psych synth part in the two bridges. Mark also added some awesome backing synth to it, as well, filling out the sound. At the very end of the process, Tez also dropped in the hot intro and outro solos, as well.

Once we had it all in the can, it was time to turn it over to Tez for his expert production and mix. He came up with the idea of adding reverb to the drums, as well as some other compression tricks, which he employed with subtle style.

This, as mentioned, is a great example of what Eclectic Collective can do in house with the composition and songwriting skills of Tez and Mark. The rest of us really had fun working on this one, too, of course. We hope you enjoy listenig to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

I'm hesitant to add to Papa's perfect summary of it being easier to explain poetry with a poem. I do agree with what I understand so far from his words. It truly is a subconscious practice. This is another wonderful pre AI opinion which appreciated the feeling and the subconscious thought flow you find true poetry in. A machine can never feed you your subconscious thoughts. A machine cannot deliver the practice and focus you need to tap that subconscious consistently. Only time and your mind, body & spirit can do that

🧓🏼On Writing Poetry

This year is the 50th anniversary of the ABC Movie of the week Trilogy of Terror- It was 3 chilling adaptions of 3 short stories written by the great sci fi author Richard Matheson. The late Karen Black ( not only a wonderful actress,she was also a great singer and songwriter) starred in all 3 of the features playing 4 characters.  As 12 year old kids of course we were the most horrified and terrified by the final story Amelia - a  story about  a demonic warrior doll that comes to life and starts attacking poor Ms. Black

 Starts out pretty chill but the last 10 mins of that film were very intense for us in 1975 ..we kids couldn't sleep well for a few nights .. I wrote the song as an homage to the story/movie/Ms. Black ( she didnt really like the movie) as well as using the story as  metaphor for the demons that live in us all

This is a very short, sort of dreamy song. It reveals that lovers usually see the reality of a disconnect, yet often hold on to the shadowy past when things were so much different. This was originally recorded some years ago but I always wanted to improve the sound quality and complimentary instrumentation. Thanks to my dear friend and musical accomplice, Nat Daniels and Gentle Rain Records, we’ve tightened up the original tracks and she added some beautiful touches in the instrumentation that really make this song achieve the results I always sought.
