This is our rendition of the beautiful traditional Christmas carol that proclaims the joy and comfort brought to the world by the birth of Jesus Christ. Both of us feel the decades of life we have known in this celebration of the sacred holiday and indeed found comfort in this effort. As we typically do with any cover song, we twisted the basic format just a bit in this folk-based recording since there are so many traditional versions out there already. With the fall of the Assad regime, Syria is once again thrust into the international spotlight as new leadership takes hold promising much while its citizens took to the streets celebrating the ousting of Assad and now wait hopefully for positive change.  The country has been in a civil war of unspeakable cruelty since 2011. The swift changes have been on Peter's heart through the holiday season. It is a country, a land, and a culture that is deeply rooted in history going back over 10 millennia.  In many ways it is a cradle of Western civilization but its people are at a contemporary crossroads wanting what we have; peace, prosperity, civility, and freedom to determine their destiny as a nation.  This song addresses that hope, the first release of the year for our little international ensemble.

Hey… glad you dropped by. Gonna get real cold here, and I have a bit of snow shoveling to finish before the cold snap, so this is a short song. More an exploration of ideas than a song, as I fumble about with music. Maybe the season? Or my age? Or life in general? Or my dreams at night about my life? The Battle of Culloden was a battle fought on April 16, 1746, near Inverness, Scotland. It was the final battle of the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and the last pitched battle on British soil.

The Jacobite army, led by Prince Charles Edward Stuart, fought against the British government army, led by the Duke of Cumberland. 

The Jacobites were defeated, with around 1,600 men killed, mostly Jacobites. 

The British lost only 50 men.

The battle ended the Jacobite Rising and settled a dispute over the monarchy that had lasted almost 60 years.

The Righteous Brothers were one of the most inspiring music acts to me growing up in the 60’s. I always dreamed of singing like Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield  and this song is one of their numerous classics of the era. Written by Cynthia Well and Barry Mann, I made a raw iPhone recording and simply added some harmony vocals, complete with living room noises and generally lo-fi ambience. But I thought it captured my passion for those times and those dreams of my younger days. Dedicated to the yellow roses...
