@poly-chain very much takes electronic much into the future. The Kyiv artist born Sasha Zakrevska uses IDM, electro, and techno as building blocks to construct her own eerie, intense, and atmospheric sound worlds that are as cinematic as they are physical. Her edgy melodies are inventive, and her machine rhythms are hugely distinctive. She has not only written solo albums but has composed for theatre and museums, collaborated with Nene H, and released charity albums for Ukraine as part of her ongoing musical resistance.  

For this week's podcast, Poly Chain has sent us the recording of the very special live show she played at Dekmantel Festival this summer. It is an absorbing hour of beatless sound that will move you as much as any drum track. There are storytelling chapters to the set that takes you from darkened underworlds to starry cosmic expanses as the moods go from reflective and calming to more intense and unsettling. It is very much the sound of tomorrow, today.

2024 is a number 8 year in numerology. Number 8 represents strength, power, and determination. The number 8 is also deeply spiritual, representing the Universal law of as above, so below. It is also said to represent our karmic destiny.

Monochrome presents, 𝖍𝖎𝖛𝖊𝖗 𝖑𝓥 : Pjenné, Passing Notes.

This winter, Monochrome is offering each month to one or several artists to discover their influences and inspirations through a forty-five minute to two hour recording. These three recordings will focus on percussive rhythms between Ambient, Deep Techno and Drum & Bass.

Artist biography :
Pjenné (Penny O’Brien) is a familiar name in the Melbourne dance community. Through her imaginative club sets and weekly show on Melbourne’s PBSfm Radio, she has established herself as a critical fixture in the local scene. Though her sets may vary wildly, Pjenné has crafted a style that is distinctly her own - atmospheric whilst bass-heavy, it’s sure to make you want to move.
The after-hours see her navigating through all realms of dance music - energetic sets that are heavily driven by the psychedelic and progressive sounds of the 90s and beyond. Equally adept at playing small, sweaty basements as she is festival stages, Pjenné has made multiple appearances at the highly acclaimed Inner Varnika, Strawberry Fields, Golden Plains and Boiler Room.
Away from the dancefloor, Pjenné finds a sanctuary inside the radio booth. Her show Passing Notes further explores her fascination with the diversity of electronic music, as well as the community it fosters. The airwaves afford her the opportunity to showcase sounds a little more unorthodox. From early evening soundscapes, downtempo and emotional synth pop, to experimental club music, Passing Notes provides a crucial connection from club to community, also playing host to inspiring local and international talent. 
Pjenné’s passion for what she does is pervasive. Be it in the studio or on the dancefloor, the same beliefs shine through: the importance of community, of supporting each other and the necessity of a damn good dance.

Also, we’d like to add a fond memory that was shared with us a few days after:

“Dozzy and Shuttle’s finale unfolded like twilight. A prolonged dusk caressed by an eerie drizzle. Shadows and whispers echoing with the surroundings. Synapses slowly reaching the ground, merging and becoming one with the underground rhizomatic networks. A memorable rendez-Nous within a fractal space. It felt like being at the core center of the matrix, enveloped by a warmth reminiscent of a maternal womb. I found myself in a weightless suspension, envisioning the past, the present and the future, all together in a blink of an eye.”

We are fueled by gratitude for all this beauty.

Exciting Eora based artist for #148 of the series. Joshua aka @a-m-u-w-a sparked my curiosity when I heard a sublime minimal tech demo/forthcoming tune via some friends in Melbourne. His style is distinctive and bassy, yet simultaneously swampy & mysterious This mix a delicate showcase of breaks, psy-infused grooves & the likes.

Dark Science Electro presents: Go.mez guest mix

Mix #036 in our series comes from Dundee native, 'Stalker' AKA Theo Middleton.

Stalker makes up one-third of the Public House trifecta who have been throwing nights in Dundee basements for the past year, tapping into the cities electro and EBM scene.  Although COVID-19 has briefly stinted their nights, they had some heavyweight bookings lined up that will be rescheduled in due course, after they previously invited our very own Ben Rothes to the party.  Take nothing away from the resident nights, these guys kill it.

Although relatively new to DJ'ing, Theo more than makes up for it in his real hunger for finding new music to bring to Public House crowds.  The knowledge is evident in this eclectic set filled with the finest in Dutch-inspired electro with plenty miffed off cyborgs for good measure.
