"If you like your grooves funk-fuelled and analog, then look no further than James Curd’s rather glorious triple track ep. ‘Checking Out NYC’ is a growling plucked bass, tight vocal cries, trickling keys and a spoken word vocal for extra cool. The piano chords go to church, amping up the energy all the way, whilst the 303s add that acid burble that gives rave reflux a good name. ‘Vertigo’ is a crisp snare and bungee bassline dance off that will make the old skool househeads lose their shit and make the nu-schoolers green with nu-acid house envy. What marks it out from the acid house wish they weres is that it layers on a tropical steel drum top line that is so beautifully musical and hooky that you can’t help but love it. Like the lyric says ‘At first I’m feeling high, then i’m feeling low, i’m trying to keep my focus, feels like vertigo’… We live this out on the dancefloor. It speaks to us. It gets my vote for this lyric alone. ‘Dance and Dash’ is an upbeat treat with double bass, 808s, bottle hits and steel drums going in and hard at it with the odd vocal whoop just for fun. James Curd has been busy with scoring and supervising movie soundtracks in the last months but finally found time to deliver new music. He has been collaborating with Filip from Daytime Discoact Poolside from LA as well as Chicago Legend DJ Deeon. Upcoming releases include cult Chicago label Trax Records, Repopulate Mars (Lee Foss’ new label - including mixes from Lee Foss himself and Felix Da Housecat), Eskimo, Sweat It Out and us: Exploited:) We can’t clearly remember how many Old Chi Acid House Tracks he sent us but in the end here are the 3 tracks we chose. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Closely following strong releases on both Futureboogie and Craig Richards’s Ship To Shore label this summer, PBR Streetgang make their debut on Crosstown Rebels with ‘Shade’, a collection of music that proves there is no stopping the UK duo right now.

‘Shade’ is a heavy bass-driven beast of a track complete with an incessant key line and spun-out spoken word samples that’s been going down rather well, whilst ‘Reading’ is a more hedonistic affair, infectious as hell as twice a groovy. On the flip I:Cube delivers a break-feast old school synth-stab-laden take on ‘Shade’ to maximum effect!

PBR Streetgang are Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe, with a shared history that began in 2003 and swept through residencies at We Love Space Ibiza and Asylum in Leeds, a string of acclaimed remixes and originals for their friends at 2020 Vision, Futureboogie, and Hot Creations, remixes for Bryan Ferry, tours to Japan, USA and Brazil, a month long residency on Rinse FM and still finding time for enjoyment in between.

Prolific French producer I:Cube steps up to remix ‘Shade’, esteemed for his work on Versatile Records and releasing for over two decades. His brilliant take on the original perfectly compliments this great EP!

After a two year hiatus from making music and DJing, playing Fabric was such an important moment in my life, announcing a return to what I love doing most, and at one of the most iconic clubs in the world. 

To express my gratitude for the opportunity, I made a Fabric intro track to start my set that night. I can't imagine a better time to give this track out to all who love and support Fabric. If there is more I can do to show my support of Fabric, I will.
