Architectural’s original foundations were anonymous, recognising no need to reveal who was behind the alias. But the same man who took DJ booths and festivals by storm as Reeko needed a new alter ego to channel his effervescent spells of creativity. 

Diving deep into another realm, Architectural delivers powerful and intelligent sounds that amalgamate classic influences with his own modern vision of techno. It is a route that has taken the Catalonian-based Asturian creator on a very different artistic path to the one initially mapped out.

Architectural laid the foundations with five solid releases between 2010 and 2014 on his own label Architectural Records (Architectural 001-005). In 2012 Architectural released Peacetime with Semantica Records, an imprint revered for their highly critical A&R process and so the selection of Architectural proved he was on the right track; both at the hypothetical drawing table and with the first hard samples of his construction work.

Juan's next step in 2013 certified Architectural's maturity. He published The Blue Album (Reeko & Architectural) with PoleGroup, a fusion of his two projects that resulted in a spatial and futuristic sound with jazz hues and feels of a movie soundtrack.

2014 brought The Secret Chapter, a release steeped in cinematic flavour and inspired by what may happen at night in a remote forest. The mood was dark and boasted an outstanding fusion of jazz and techno.

In 2015 Architectural launched Amour with Dutch label Wolfskuil, courtesy of Darko Esser, a release of pure quality. As a record it was far more dance floor focused than the preceding release, bringing luminosity, melody and life without ever departing from the intimate moods and obsession for precision that have become a hallmark of Architectural's work.

As the project defined and matured, Juan finally revealed that himself as the force behind both Reeko and Architectural. Does this mean he's not entirely sure about what he wants to create? Does he suffer from bipolarity? Maybe, instead, he's the kind of artist that during the Renaissance would have been called a total artist, a true creator, a maestro in the widest sense of the word.

Alongside his concrete releases, Architectural’s concept has also been delivered to iconic clubs and festivals worldwide. Dancers and music lovers at Printworks, MMA, Bassiani, Tresor, Robert Johnson, Awakenings & Lev Festival have all had the opportunity to absorb his next-level creativity and vision. As the lines and framework of Architectural’s concept continue to rise and give form, the landscape of Juan’s techno vision becomes an ever more defined audio world in which to immerse the mind and soul.

Keeping up their fine schedule, the Spazio Disponibile label is back with a fifth excellent EP, this time from Modes. Modes is an artist who is making his debut here, and he is one of a few guys Spazio is creating a platform for in the coming months. 

Modes fits right in with the deeply subliminal, transcendental style of the label and its associated party in Rome. Opener ‘M52’ is a supple and sci-fi mix of smooth rubber kicks and Millsian melodies that are trippy and hypnotic. ‘M51’ is darker and moodier, with smeared pads and grainy ambience making for a big and shadowy chamber of end-of-days techno that is full of foreboding, and finally ‘M44’ is more forceful and brutal, with reverb and electricity static adding texture to the cavernous airwaves. Compelling from start to finish, this is a fantastic debut from Modes.

The next Dust REC album is ready to be released! It is going to be launched under a series of mini albums entitled Origins and Dorian Gray is in charge of signing it.

As it is usual in these series, the music, the graphic concept and packaging melt together to create a unique way of artistic expression.

This album is going to be released in CD and digital format. It also includes a postcard, a sticker and a star map, which is printed in a transparency sheet and safe-kept in a tube. Its packaging conveys different viewpoints of life, depending on how one looks at it. How big is the universe? Do we know everything about it?

All these objects are packed in a handmade box designed for this special occasion.

Warok imprint owner DJ and producer Clotur is one of the important figures on the current French and Tunisian techno scene.

Inspired by the percussive rhythms and atmospheric textures, he developed his own style, mixing hypnotic layers and catchy bassline.

Storm Control EP - Plant43 Recordings 004 - Released 9th December 2020

For MTK056, Motek is proud to welcome back its close friend and frequent collaborator Stevie R to the label. This breakbeat release comes with remixes from electro legend Carl Finlow and Motek’s
own DelFin. Following his hugely successful A.T.O.M.S. release, Stevie R has teamed up with Parisinos to create a breakbeat gem with a unique dark Anatolian acid twist. Blending the live with the electronic, ‘Posh Sabo’ is steeped in interest and the unexpected. The punchy stripped back beats sections are brought to life with a mixture of crunchy guitar and bass elements alongside analogue synth leads. Percussive textures surround the mix and the whole production is taken to the next level with a mysterious and exciting deep rhythmic vocal. Carl has kept the feel of the original and added his electro favour to the mix. Ever evolving drone pads and reverbs create the feeling of space in which the synth plucks and leads can dance. Through this the remix is provided with a lot of bounce. The vocal has been used to add more low end weight to the mix as it is cut down and set back to become another imposing rhythmic element.
DelFin has deconstructed the original and brought a more minimal feel to his remix. Pinned by airy drone textures the carefully selected elements of the track create a lot of room in the mix for the subtlety of the groove play to come through. Full use of the vocal provides memorable moments in this eerie and intriguing remix.

Vrika is the moniker under the Spanish producer Fernando Blanco. His music is a mixture of hypnotic rhythms, ambient soundscapes and organic textures, with a tribal output. Starting from techno and move to freely different subgenres. He has released music on Doppt Zykler and other underground labels. Recently founded the project RVD alongside Discknoked and Randoom, focused on slow techno and live improvisations.
