I'm pleased to announce a new project that will replace the 'premieres' process for @DarkScienceElectro on Soundcloud. The name of this new endeavor is 'Electro Rewind'. The idea behind it is to shed light on some older tracks that people might have missed. Not only is this meant to engage new fans of Electro (of which there are many) with some old content that they may be unacquainted with, but also to bring smiles to those long-time fans who remember the years past in Electro music. 

My following on Soundcloud currently sits at 16,000 and my weekly listens hover around the 10k mark so I want to use my remaining 'reach' as much as I can to strengthen our beloved genre in any way that I can. Of course, that has always been my intention with everything I have done in my unpaid role as curator of Dark Science Electro. The new process called 'Electro Rewind' can be thought of like a reverse premiere of sorts and will contain links to current projects by the artist as well as additional resources for that artist. This process will be invite-only and will likely be limited to 1 or 2 posts per week to avoid over-saturation. I will, of course not be monetizing the tracks I publish to ensure that I don't profit off the brilliant, classic music of my colleagues.

@CarlFinlow is an English producer that produces under the aliases Random Factor, Silicon Scally, Voice Stealer, and of course, Carl Finlow.

Born in Liverpool England, from an early age Carl was listening to electronic music by the likes of Japanese master Isao Tomita and since 1986 he has been making his own music with computers. He started to put music onto records in the early 1990s and soon became involved with prestigious labels around the world like Warp, Soma, Klang, SCSI-AV, Novamute, Satamile, Electrix and was also a founder and chief producer for the UK's 2020 Vision label. With a career crossing three decades Finlow has produced an enormous catalog of music and a quick look at his discography will reveal hundreds of releases and remixes for acclaimed artists such as Andrew Weatherall, Luke Slater, John Tejada, Thomas Heckmann and Eric Estornel. Since moving to France in 2002 he has continued to produce a stream of electro EP's and albums and has played live as far and wide as Tokyo, Moscow, New York and LA. Not content to rest within one genre, Carl has also made many pieces of music for tv and radio around the globe and he continues to push his skills as a composer and a producer.

@Volsoc is an American Electro project, consisting of Justin Maxwell and Jean-Paul Bondy. The project was formed after a series of collaborative live performances in the Southern California rave scene in 1999-2000. Combining their individual monikers, Stupid Octave Cat ("soc") and Volum, the two first recorded under this name for the 2001 Abduction Productions compilation, but then released their first 12" on Germany's World Electric.

Electro Rewind: Volsoc - Shout Out (2002)

This @DarkScienceElectro Rewind we take a listen to one of the most influential Electro producers from the 2000's - @BorisDivider - He has released with such labels as Semantica Records, Fundamental Records, Propaganda Moscow, Satamile, and his own imprint @drivecom - Among his audio production accomplishments, he is also a sound designer and audiovisual composer. This Spanish producer has too many good songs to name but this track really stands out to me. Maybe it is its inclusion in the 2005 documentary 'Darkbeat' (https://tinyurl.com/darkbeatelectro) that makes it hold such a special place in my heart. Either way, the track is a classic.

Phillip Washington is an electronic musician based in Texas. His influences include Electro, IDM, experimental hardcore bass, and more. His technical approach mixes the versatility of software with the touch and feel of hardware to create a timeless mixture of electronic beats and melody. Cygnus has been producing music under this alias since 2011 and has brought us some of the freshest Electro of the last decade. He manages to pay homage to classic Electro, while at the same time pushing the genre forward. There is a certain feeling of soulfulness that can be heard in his music that, I think, isn't matched by anyone before or currently.

For this @DarkScienceElectro Rewind we check in with @The-Exaltics - Rob started his career as a resident DJ at the Club Kassablanca in Jena, where he performed with big players such as Robert Hood, Jeff Mills and Claude Young.  Robert founded the project @The-Exaltics in 2006 as well as the Electro/Techno label SolarOneMusic with his long-term friend Nico Jagiella. Since then he published countless 12"s and several LPs with labels like Clone, Crème Organization, Bunker, or his own label @Solar_One_Music and worked during that time with outstanding artists like Gerald Donald, Helena Hauff, or ERP for example. He turned his deep cinematic and most of all charismatic Electro into his own trademark. Another signature is his special dark-driven Acid Techno. During his intense live performances, Robert presents his unique version of Electro and Acid music.

For the next @DarkScienceElectro premiere we look to the southern United States for a check-in with Electro veteran @Cygnus

With a long history of releases beginning in 2006, this Texas resident presents a varied release with the brand new 'Rainy Days'. Straddling the line between Ambient, Techno, IDM, Chillwave and Electro, this full-length release on Biosoft Records has something for everyone. The track selected by @DVSNME to premiere for @DarkScienceElectro is entitled 'Default Mode Network' and is the most Electro-centric track on the release. This track is about as smooth as they come with understated percussive traits and a ton of focus on the melody, driven by beautifully modulated pads and bass lines generated by a Waldorf Blofeld, Elektron Digitakt/Analog 4 as well as a Korg VC-10. The song was described by Cygnus as a song about meditation. He went on to say that "The brain is 'used' and consumes energy even when it is not focused on any discreet goal or process". This captivating release is a journey through the sonic landscapes of this prolific producers mind.

Russian producer Nocow returns to Rekids with an enthralling full-length album entitled ‘Atoner’ this November.

Real name Aleksei Nikitin, Nocow is known for his versatility, producing a large body of genre spanning work on labels like Clone Royal Oak, Figure, Fauxpas Musik, Gost Zvuk and Styrax. The St. Petersburg-based producer debuted on Rekids last year with his ‘Samaya Dolgaya Noch’ EP, a mellow release complete with vocal driven cuts as well as 2-step rhythms, and now returns with a myriad of productions in a fourteen track album entitled ‘Atoner’.

‘Atoner’ opens with an eponymous track that gently unravels with soaring synths and subtle percussion before Nocow’s voice emerges alongside twinkling atmospherics in ‘Complie’. Throughout the long player are also intricately produced short tracks sitting between the two and three-minute mark such as looping vocal number ‘Dancerecter’, the melodic and rattling ‘Leto’ and ominous ‘Delore’.

Ostanovitsa’ is a murky offering featuring a meandering organ riff, leading into the pitter-patter drums and serene chords of ‘Starveme (feat. Tayut Ogni)’. ‘Come Along’ is a crystalline and otherworldly experience from start to finish, whilst ‘Melting Lights’ is comprised of echoing, subterranean sounds, making way for reverberating snares and metallic stabs in ‘Standalone’.

Husky murmurs and soothing notes then make up ‘Neva’, moving into the syncopated beat and idyllic chord sequences in ‘Can’t Get Enough’ ahead of ‘Stonecold’ and its icy aesthetic. Finally, the album reaches a mesmerising conclusion with the spellbinding ‘Footer’.

With a long history of releases beginning in 2006, this Texas resident presents a brand new EP called 'Deep Analysis'.  The track selected by @DVSNME to premiere for @DarkScienceElectro is entitled 'Sheffield Bleep'. The song was composed using Digitakt, Analog4 , Roland SH-01, Ableton and a Vocoder, This vocal track's central theme is an ode to the mighty @CPUrecords done over an Jazzy Electropop feeling track with a Roland CR-78 providing the rhythm. This track is my personal favorite on the record, however, I would also say that this release as a whole is absolutely worth checking out. It is on pre-order now and will be shipping out on or around May 3rd, 2019.
