Newly launched Dutch electro label LDI Records follows up their first release from T/Error with a deep and dark four track EP by French producer Franck Kartell. 

In a homage to masterful science fiction writer Philip K Dick - Side A of Electric Sheep EP evokes scenes from future mechanised worlds. Electric Sheep kicks the 12” off with a melancholic and contemplative moment followed by a steel cold and brooding venture in Voigt-Kampff.

On the B side of this release, there is a live mix of Kartell's track Electro Music, a futuristic electro work out with kicks for the dancefloor. The EP completes with Victoria - an ode to the electronic musician Victoria Lukas who passed away in 2020 - with a beautifully poised and contemplative track steeped in synths.

Franck Kartell is a French producer who has releases on Between Places, Transient Force, Ukonx Recordings, New Flesh, Bass Agenda and others. Since 2005 he has been producing well thought-out electro music filled with dark atmospheres and driving rhythms.

Specialising in moody, atmospheric electro, LDI Records (Lloyd’s Dark Imperium) are an essential label to watch. Distributed worldwide by Clone Distribution, while the Dutch label’s main focus is on vinyl releases, available in selected record shops across the globe, releases will also be available digitally.

Label founder Holly Lester pools together a selection of her favourite artists from across the globe to form the first volume in the Duality Trax Visions compilation series.

100% of compilation profits will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, who provide medical care to casualties of war in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and much more. The organisation has also worked tirelessly to provide Covid-19 related aid to countries hit the hardest throughout the pandemic and are currently lobbying for a global waiver of patents on COVID-19 technologies.

Bouncing from the U.S to Europe, the VA travels through a multitude of moods and genres across seven tracks - including acid tinged electro from New York, breaks infused garage from Chicago, rave-fuelled house music from Belgium and a pulsating trance-inspired club track from Estonia.

On February 25th, Palms Out will release the first in a series of compilations on cassette and digital. Titled plainly: "End Broken Windows", 100% of the proceeds of the series will go to charity in an effort to raise awareness about broken windows policing methods. Specifically, I hope this project contributes in some small way to spreading the word about the ways in which policing and prosecuting low-level offenses serves only as a way of terrorizing and traumatizing vulnerable populations, without achieving the intended goal of preventing violent crime. The theoretical premise of broken windows policing is fundamentally flawed, and woefully misguided -- there is no evidence that focusing police power on low level violations like sex work, loitering, minor vandalism, petit theft, minor drug offenses, etc. leads to any reduction in violent crime. The practice must end.

Each volume of the series will benefit a different charity doing work to counteract the effects of broken windows policing; all it really does is criminalize being black, trans, queer, young, unhoused, etc. The first volume will benefit the SBB National Sex Worker Bail Fund (swopbehindbars.org/donate). Sex workers are often intersectionally and inordinately affected by broken windows policing, and should never be forced to spend a single night in jail merely for exercising agency over their own bodies.

Musically and conceptually, this record is inspired by a place where broken windows policing is disproportionately felt: the subway/metro. I gave all of the artists the vague prompt to write music inspired by the NYC subway system -- and the results were expectedly varying. For this volume, I pursued artists who have been generally exploring midtempo dance music without focus on 4 to the floor drum patterns. The result was a collection of largely breakbeat-oriented songs, some with direct classic NYC & Detroit electro references, others with more melodic and euphoric UK hardcore inspiration, and others still that kind of split the difference between modern bass and Baltimore club (for lack of better descriptors).

Zobol is a reliably prolific entity within the current electro scene, and he's at it once again with this fresh EP for Analog Concept. The record opens up with the positively lush sound of 'No Disguise', which lands somewhere between the dreamiest delights of Detroit and sunkissed Florida machine funk. It's a record to blow the Winter blues away, that's for sure. 'Clarity' meanwhile has a noirish braindance quality to it, and the title track nudges up into acidic, borderline ravey territory with a sweet accent in the synth department. CPU-signed artist Nullptr steps up for a remix of 'Mirage', softening its edges and getting expressive with the synth work.

While the German producer Martin Matiske averages a new release under his given name every few years, there was a long stretch of time in which sightings of his Blackploid alias were much more rare. After dropping an EP for Frustrated Funk in 2006, fans found further material hard to come by over the next decade or so. However, Matiske has reinvigorated Blackploid in recent times, with the project making a few compilation appearances and dropping a couple of EPs across 2020.

PREMIERE: Blackploid - Night Drive (Central Processing Unit)

Moscow label Pkge presents a new release consisting of three personal compositions from one of its bosses Caprithy and two remixes from Farron and Shedbug. The EP is called "Splinter" and it represents the stylistic diversity of the author's tracks.

The release opened with the track "Press Any Key" in which randomly programmed percussions alternate each other creating an effect of suddenness. The main synth bassline glues the drums together and doesn’t give you a break. On a classic techno breakout track «Сhannel 3» Caprithy achieves dynamics with bouncing sidechain bass and a tricky percussion. The title track has a modern electro sound, choppy drums with a lot of drops. The confident snare drum keeps the rhythm in check and dilutes the dark atmosphere.

All three tracks from Caprithy are filled with noises, various sounds and that has already become the author's calling card. Also the picture is complemented by the strongest remixes from Shedbug who unexpectedly shifted towards EBM and Farron who presented the classic DnB track.
