MOD82 series #008 - Modēm

Techno music always was a substance, made of contrasts - it was born in Motor City, befriended man and machine, combined live emotions and technical precision. These features should be the best to describe music from Russian producer Aleks Unbalance. 

He debuted in 2008 and it took a few years to create his own unique style. In his music you can find distinct symbiosis of strong emotions and industrial themes, which is eclectic and conjoins with technically accurate treatment in music story making.

In a series of records, released on the same name record label, Unbalance could realize his ideas fully - this fresh sound was a bombshell and it was demonstrated with his live performance in Berghain club, world’s techno Mecca, only a year and series of gigs in another legendary club Tresor.

When got support of techno scene old stagers, Unbalance proceed to develop his ideas, expanding a verges of techno and collaborating with a lot of significant artists in Rebalance project. Now his discography includes vinyl releases on such labels like ARTS, PoleGroup, Rawax, Solid Groove and many others, he contributed on legendary Fabric series with a track specially recorded for Steffi, who made the compilation.

In his performances Unbalance endeavors to combine a whole techno ages, gives his due to classic techno, gets inspiration in futuristic sound and mixing it with a modern techno wave, which is what he is. His style of performing is so close to his own works and it creates unique atmosphere on a dance floor, no matter is it private party or big rave in Berlin Berghain.

Each spontaneous and mysterious coincidences that occurs, carries a notice about the potential of each moment. The pursuit is to use them and interpret the messages they offer. 

One of these cosmic lights led us to the Artist who stars in this captivating installment of the fourth episode of our podcast series: David Reina. 

Born in Córdoba, south of Spain. His musical career began in the mid 90ʼs, being involved in Hip Hop for a few years. In 1997 he began getting involved in Electronic music and especially in Techno. More attracted to the Underground scene.

After a decade playing around Spain and twice in the United States, and having shared stage with international artists in numerous venues and events, he decided to study music production and sound technician. 

Releasing music in labels such as Axis Records, Subsist, Main Concept, Rhod, Gynoid Audio, Induxtriall, DarkForest, or Methodical to name a few, in 2018 he started his record label called Legend 1997 Records focused on Sci-Fi, Minimalistic Techno, and Cinematic Soundscapes.

The Art of David Reina; a journey where the author creates a sounder paradigm that opens the mind to changes permanently and makes the following invitation to his listeners.

As you become more aware of the concurrencies and their meanings, you begin to connect more and more with the underlying field of infinite possibilities.

If you are surprised by the way in which situations of your travel are intertwined. And you want to consciously participate in the realization of your desires, you are ready to dream with it.

Henrique Silva Aka Ricky Cross, is a young artist born in Viana do Castelo, in the north of Portugal, in the 1993s.

with his first release coming in 2014. This artist's perseverance and consistency has led him to release on labels like Children Of Tomorrow, Diffuse Reality, R3volution Records and Ucker, just to name a few.

In the last time he has received support from artists like: DVS1, Dave Clarke, Black Lotus, Cristian Varela among others.

In 2021 he released the first album of his career on the Legendary Axis Records Label, a purely conceptual work entitled "Future Technosignature". Twelve Spatial Sound themes, ambient soundcapes, and clever dance excercises.
All this with an eye on the future of Technology to find intelligent life in outer space as the main concept.

DWPS Episodio #003 David Reina

Brahian Arcila aka Arzax, born in the city of Medellin in 1992. In his career as a DJ, he is characterized by his strong sessions, with a predominant kick always in his mixes. In his career as a DJ he has had the opportunity to play in some of the most renowned cities in the techno scene, such as when he participated in the FREEDOM Festival 2022 doing a b2b with local artist Rame.

Arzax has recently had his first tour of South America where he was able to share his music in countries like Chie, Argentina and Uruguay.
Currently he is the founder of his own collective ASFIXIA COLLECTIVE which has Colombia as its main base, he is also a resident DJ and producer of the ALSS agency and the PAISA KALCHNO collective.

 He has released on labels like: Alss, Afflicted in Techno, Trucking Records, Molecular records, just to name a few.

When techno is on your DNA you never need additional translation, this is the case with Hugo Rolan, hailing from the north of Spain, more precisely Asturias, he has been exposed to techno and futuristic sounds since his teenage years, and now he's a well seasoned forty something adult.

He’s been primarily a dj for two decades, staying hidden in the local underground scene while working on a standard dayjob. In his spare time he’s been learning production skills, diving deep inside music creation software and hardware, training hard and silently until he felt the moment of going public.

The waiting has been worth it and he has just released his first solo work in one of the most renowned techno labels around, Warm Up Recordings, curated by Oscar Mulero. With a full album that is gonna hit the stores soon this summer.

A real example of a real techno lover living in the real world, loving music slowly and carefully until the right moment puts him on the desired spot.

Cuando el techno está en tu ADN no necesitas traducción adicional para entenderlo, este es el caso de Hugo Rolan, oriundo del norte de España, más precisamente de Asturias, ha estado expuesto al techno y los sonidos futuristas desde su adolescencia, y ahora en su madurez podemos afirmar que domina el lenguaje a la perfección.

Ha sido principalmente DJ durante dos décadas, permaneciendo bajo el radar en la escena underground local mientras desarrollaba un trabajo diario convencional. En su tiempo libre, ha estado aprendiendo habilidades de producción, profundizando en el software y hardware de creación musical, entrenando duro y en silencio hasta que ha sentido el momento de hacer público su trabajo.

La espera ha valido la pena y está a punto de publicar su primer trabajo en solitario en uno de los sellos techno más reconocidos del momento, Warm Up Recordings, gestionado por Oscar Mulero.

Un ejemplo de un verdadero amante del techno que vive en el mundo real, amando la música cuidadosamente hasta que el momento adecuado le ha colocado en el lugar que se merece por derecho.

This week we have a very special guest mix from LA Techno Legend, Developer.

Developer is one of a few active DJ/Producers that emerged from the Los Angeles Techno scene in the early 1990's. After ending his residency as a DJ on radio station 88.7FM kspc in 1995, Developer "Adrian Sandoval" Became the Import & Export Manager of the first dedicated techno distribution company on the west coast " Entity Music Distribution " which distributed top labels such as Axis Records, Reload Belgium, Plus 8, as well as a wealth techno label's from Detroit, Chicago and around the world. 

Over the last 3 decades Developer has played alongside many of the elite techno talents from around the globe as well as taking part in laying a foundation in the LA Techno culture by producing events and exposing various first time international talents throughout the mid 1990's to late 2000's. Developer gained much of his acclaim and extensive performance history from his strong marathon sets and quick programming skills as well as the ability of playing 50 tracks per hour on 3 turntables with effect processor and sampler.

Developer continues to thrive as one of the most interesting techno mixmasters from the Americas as well as the birth of his label Moduarz which features productions and remixes from some of his early contemporaries in Los Angeles as well as a few established and emerging talents from around the world.

The Spanish Techno movement of the 90s has names, one of them is Bernardo Hangar.
Born in Córdoba (Spain) Bernardo is a true veteran of the Techno scene.

Hakkon was born in La Rioja (Spain) in August 1991. Since his childhood he was marked by his love of electronics and always wanted to become a DJ.


Since 2010 he started his passionate career of being a great professional in the electronic scene; In 2013 he started in discos. Thanks to hard and continuous work, a unique and varied musical repertoire has been created in his sessions, which are built with great intelligence and meticulousness, transporting the listener on a tireless journey of dark and forceful techno that result in a dynamic combination to 2 and 3 decks of a plurality of a style such as Techno.


Among his musical bases, his admiration for artists such as: Ben Sims, Truncate, Mark Broom, Robert Hood, Cristian Varela, Jeff Mills, Surgeon, Oscar Mulero, James Ruskin, in short, old guard, stands out.

Leandro Martinez también conocido como Le Martz es un Dj y productor de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Nacido en la zona oeste de gran Buenos Aires
 lleva casi mas de una década dentro
de la escena argentina, presentàndose en clubes como Vox, Niceto Club, Blow, entre otros.
Años mas tarde comenzaron a aparecer sus primeras producciones hasta editar
su primer track en un compilado en el sello español Sub TL, a cargo de Leandro Gamez y
 HD Substance. Ademàs ha editado en sellos 
como Trau-ma (Por),  Devotion Records(esp),Simplecoding Recordings (Arg),  Sub TL (Esp),Take More Music(Kos), Aesir Records, Combine entre otros, donde se 
roza con grandes de la escena mundial como lo son Israel Toledo,Abstrac Division , P.E.A.R.L, Fernanda Martins, Paula Cazenave,Joaquin Ruiz , entre otros.
 En Agosto de 2019 lanzò su propio sello llamado Tecnotecsi Records, el cual fué muy bien recibido tanto en la escena nacional como en el resto del mundo.

Nicko Shuo, a DJ and producer from St. Petersburg, started his musical journey experimenting with different styles of electronic music. However, as time passed, he became increasingly drawn to fast techno. After being captivated by the hypnotic and raw essence of this genre, Nicko fell in love with it. In order to develop his own unique sound, he meticulously analysed a vast collection of releases and showcased his tracks on various labels.

La carrera musical de David empieza a mediados de los 90, tras haber estado involucrado en
el Hip Hop algunos años, en 1997 empieza a adentrarse en la música electrónica y más
concretamente en el Techno, sintiéndose más atraído por la cara más Undergound.
Tras más de una década pinchando en diferentes puntos de la geografía nacional y Estados
Unidos, y haber compartido cabina con artistas tanto nacionales como internacionales en
innumerables salas y eventos, entre 2005/2007 decide estudiar producción musical y técnico
de sonido, dando fruto años más tarde sus primeras producciones en sellos como: Subsist,
MainConcept, Dust Rec, Morforecs, Hypersunday, Induxtriall Records, Cicuta NetLabel,
Dark Garden Recording, Kidnapping Netlabel o Nulabel.
En 2011 crea junto a Burqa V. aka Elchk el proyecto que más repercusión ha tenido en su
carrera como productor, VE L O V R, teniendo varias referencias tanto en vinilo como en
digital en sellos como Gynoid Audio, MainConcept, Serial Number 849 Records o Ballistic.
Siendo éstas bien recibidas por la crítica, pinchadas y charteadas por artistas relevantes.
A destacar su trabajada y depurada faceta como DJ con vinilos y CDJ, elaborando sets con un
amplio repertorio de estilos que van desde la cara más Minimal Detroit y Dub Berlinès hasta
la más mental, oscura y afilada con reminiscencias muy presentes del sonido de Birmingham.
Actualmente DR está trabajando en nuevas referencias y remixes. También empezando a
producir su primer álbum en el que será su nuevo sello discográfico.

BIO:
Techno hit Japan hard in the early 90s, TAKAAKI ITOH was quickly impressed and intrigued with this new sound. The unique style of beats revealed the gateway to a new world of underground music in Japan - something he had never heard before. In 1994, Takaaki began to organize his own techno parties in his home of northern Japan.

By providing a fantastic lineup, his parties quickly became a success. In 1996, having decided that it was time to start making his own tracks, His Japanese style of techno was pure, unique and underground - nothing that had been heard before in Europe.

His reputation and popularity quickly spread all over the continent. He was becoming recognized as Japan's most underground and respected techno DJ.

As of 2001 he was getting offers to perform at large clubs and festivals all over Europe, like Awakenings, Berghain, Tresor. Promoters wanting him, party people loving him, Takaaki Itoh took the next step and started his own label Wols. Passion led to success and he became recognized as the top of the next generation of techno music.

La carrera musical de David empieza a mediados de los 90, tras haber estado involucrado en el Hip Hop algunos años y en 1997 empieza a adentrarse en la música electrónica, más concretamente en el Techno, sintiéndose más atraído por la cara más Underground.

En 2018 crea su propio sello discográfico llamado Legend 1997 Records, el cual ya cuenta con varias referencias en el mercado.

Actualmente cuenta con varios Ep’s que saldrán a la luz este 2020, además de su primer álbum alejado de la pista de baile.

Antonio de Angelis, dj, producer in constant evolution, is always looking for new targets and more challenges, experimenting uncommon paths and inventing innovative languages. Eclectic, creative, curious and involving, has a unique style which transmits passion and adrenaline, dreams and emotions. His sets are marked by the art of sound manipulation and style pollution, challenging standards and prejudices, playing wisely with technology and everything that enables him to change and produce music reworks. Antonio dosn t aim to classify his sound within precise boundaries, but its quite easy to perceive strong house roots with contemporary techno and deep inflections. 
Antonio De Angelis was born in the south of Italy in 1980, in 2000 he moved to London and he has become one of the few Italian artists emerging in the electro music in the UK... He started his career with the name of Toni D and he has steadily worked with many international artists and labels.. In summer 1999 Antonio moved to Ibiza where his passion for music got stronger, and in November 2000 he moved definitely to London where with his huge and genuine passion for music he managed to Dj in the best parties in London, at fabric, One more, T bar, Half baked, Minimal hospital, Zum, etc Like this he became Dj resident at Kubicle, one of the best after party in the capital. After some releases with the label Safari, he met Arnaud Le Texier, they became friends and started a collaboration.... Also is start new project duo with Arnaud Le Texier called DETECT AUDIO In 2014 label boss Arnaud Le Texier together with his partners and colleague Antonio De Angelis decided to start a series of events in London for the label of Children of Tomorrow.
