This song is about a little girl that I read about in a news article. Alice was 12 years old and fighting Type 1 Diabetes. She lived with her parents who both worked but neglected her terribly. The house was filled with filth, trash, and roaches. Neither parent cared enough to help her monitor her blood sugar or help her administer her medications. The school knew her plight and said that her blood sugar often tested at 600. It should have been about 150. The case workers were sent but did nothing but make reports. The doctors knew as well, but no one stepped in to help her. She died from ketoacidosis (extremely high blood sugar) on the floor of her bedroom, and her parents didn't even know for hours. Both of her parents are going to prison. Too little too late though. I want to honor her through this song. A little girl who never should have died. But, she did, surrounded by adults that did nothing to help her. Fly high Alice. You're free now!
