Groundwerk Recordings is a label driven by ART>EGO. Groundwerk's sound reflects the moody depth of an urban landscape existing between ocean and forest. From bright outgoing summer days to dark and heavy winter nights, our releases aim to tell the story of the four seasons experienced in our west coast city. 
Music featured on Groundwerk Recordings has sprouted from grassroots electronic music community initiatives in Vancouver, Canada. The most predominant of these initiatives is the Groundwerk Listening Party, a monthly social meet-up for electronic music enthusiasts to connect and collaborate. With these events gaining momentum, Groundwerk Recordings is born, ready to present its community to the world.
We launch with an EP from Diana Boss, a production duo that has been with us since Groundwerk Listening Party 001. 
The single West Coast, featuring lyrics and vocals from Vancouver artist Elle Wolf, soars over the coastline and with guitar arpeggios and a hint of synth driven-hardness. 
The B-side Legacy is a sassy bassline driven stomper with a wide-open drop.
Karsten Sollors' West Coast remix takes the single deeper and later into the party, delivering a lower groove that sits well in a tech-house set.

Claude's talent shines on Freaks & Beaks, notably in tasty night time songs with rhythmic breath work and a global pulse such as Youngblood, Alpine Arpline, and the new single Freaks Don't Fail Now.

Claude VonStroke, DIRTYBIRD’s founder, crafted his new album Freaks & Beaks, with a new approach: committing to daily creative time and experimenting with hardware from complex modular synths to simple iPad drum apps. Keeping it all DIY, he sampled his own voice and his children for the hook in “Freaks Don’t Fail Me Now.” 

Freaks & Beaks nods at inspirations from VonStroke’s world. In Session A, he channels Tale of Us and the label Kind Music, hones his synth noodling skills in “Alpine Arpline,” and champions a new talent with Wyatt Marshall in “Youngblood.” This is VonStroke’s love letter to the vibrancy and genre diversity that has made DIRTYBIRD a label of legendary status.
