OFK - Civil Unrest [Artaphine Premiere]

PH17, the Leipzig-based label by Solaris and Stanley Schmidt returns back to business with an EP by Leipzig’s very own DJ YumYum. Mostly known for his releases on Defrostatica and his activism in the local Rave-scene, “Decisions” marks his first full-length release setting a high standard defining his own sound somewhere between „Artefaxian“-ultra-HD glitches and the highly energetic rave sound known by artists like Schacke et al. The release appears physically as a rarely limited M-Disc, an online-piece and graphic design by Anja Kaiser.

The name of the EP describes the creative process leading to this music: Drawing from a sufficient sound pallet and technique, all left to be done is taking aesthetic decisions.

In these times of desillusion – besides the quest for overcoming capitalism – sound can achieve a certain autonomy, where something like a meaning can be preserved, at least partly being able to escape the determination of the destructive social forces determining us. In Electronic music there can be the anticipation of the use of the forces of production, modern technology, for the human benefit, not its self-destruction. This piece of music would like to be a contribution to this.

About the Artist:

DJ YumYum is an electronic musician from Leipzig. Besides cheap instant food and the world revolution he is mostly interested in modern, ravey, fast and experimental electronic sounds which he produces, digs and tries to spread within the Electronic music community. Having a background in Jazz music, he tries to push complex yet physical music to an effort reminding of the radical roots of Rave.

Moa Pillar (@moarock) returns with his second LP, ‘Hymns’, on Karelian label Full of Nothing. To be released on July 26th, ‘Hymns’ follows the epic album ‘Humanity’ (2015).

Offering up five tracks of transcendental heavy bass and beats, Moa Pillar aka Fedor Pereverzev, slams the worlds of authentic folk, tribal music, forward thinking electronica and dark techno together, unapologetically creating illuminating effects on his latest LP. Refusing to follow convention, Pereverzev produces his own, soul elevating sound art with his eclectic textures and sounds.

Each track on ‘Hymns’ challenges the traditional meaning of its namesake. Even the meditative ‘And the Moon Stopped’ has an undercurrent of darkness offering, itself listening like a sacrifice to the higher energies. Developing a niche sound the producer explains; “my music is all about energy, no physics, it’s about the spirit”.

Pereverzev first rose to prominence during his late teens after setting new age trends in the Russian beats scene circa 2009. Two years after the excellent ‘Hunting' EP, Moa Pillar began to experiment with harder sounds and different forms, leading him to the sounds he creates today. Outside of Moa Pillar, Pereverzev is one of Russia’s leading sound designers and co-founder of audio-production studio, Monoleak – they have recorded music for the likes of NASA and Mercedes. He has also enjoyed great success with film Bonfires and Stars premiered at Visions du Reel Festival, which follows him to the Caucasus where he collaborated with local folk musicians.
