WEEK10 16 Chus & Ceballos Present MIAMI 2016 Sampler Mixtape

Having had a remarkable start to 2016 with self aclaimed ‘Illicit Behaviour’ EP, Hot Creations & Paradise pacesetter - Jamie Jones - serves up his latest instalment via the Emerald City imprint.

Leading track ‘Land Of The Giants’ flows into rich orchestral elements, followed up by prominent electronic wobbles before switching the pace - implementing a complex instrumental structure from the get go. Collaborating with Hero Twins (Timothy D Jones – brother to Jamie – and Tarhan Ozkan) for the release, they introduce faint, haunting vocals, paired with a low rolling and distorted bassline to create an underground masterpiece.

In contrast to the title release, ‘The Shoplifter’ focuses solely on the electronic layers weaving throughout the record. The stripped back instrumental resonates a thumping bassline in turn with reverberating bleeps and a murmuring female vocal hook. The breakdown lends its ear to fierce, punchy orchestral chords before signing things off with echoing percussion – transcending Jamie’s ‘Lands Of The Giants’ EP as one of his most experimental workings yet.

Wow, just lots of wow is how I even attempt to describe last weekend at Desert Hearts. Everything was pretty much perfect the entire weekend, it was so incredible to be in such a happy, warm, friendly, weird, dancey, ravey, obnoxious scene. This year definitely cemented itself as a special place to make amazing new friends, getting closer to ones I've already have, and exploring beyond comfort zones all in the comfort of a continuous dance floor under the disco ball. 

This DH came right after an insane and busy Q1 for me, I think I was in San Francisco all of 2 weeks throughout the past 3 months. I don't think I've worked harder, or taken less breaks, in my life. DH really allowed me to let loose, leave it all on the field, and be inspired by some of the most mind bending DJs in the world. 

This mix was the best attempt at trying to capture some of the magic of DH 2017. There are some standout moments from the weekend, the Detflef set on Friday, Marques Wyatt dropping Bicep in the sun on Sunday and then seeing him the next day acknowledging "how could he resist, it was 'lovelee dae, and the sun was shining'". And dear lord Sacha Robotti was on a new level sunday night - that James Blake edit... Had to throw in the 'Set it off' Strafe moment too - some of the moments this weekend were too epic to let go of just yet. 

This also goes out to the crew that made the weekend amazing, Varun, Chase, Zach, Coco, Ivory, Drew, Trevor, Jeff, Joe, Taylor, Courtney, and the rest of the Desert Worm crew - you guys know how to make a pizza feel welcome! Thanks for sharing, dancing, caring, and getting as weird as humanly possible in the Desert together - looking forward to doing it again. D<3
