NOTHING NEW #001/ Ben UFO - 'Never Went to Blue Note'

UK-Based DJ and producer Leif Knowles has been immersed in electronic music for well over 10 years. Over this time he has developed a mature understanding of the deeper aspects of house, techno and downtempo.

Leif is a core member and resident DJ at the UK’s esteemed Freerotation festival, and also co-runs the vinyl label UntilMyHeartStops with his long-time friend and fellow Freerotation resident, Joe Ellis. The label has seen releases from the likes of Joey Anderson, Area, October and Leif himself.
Leif’s DJ sets are carefully crafted from years of record collecting and DJing experience, and can cover everything from deep and spacey ambient textures to jacking house and techno.

This is the recording of a totally improvised hardware live performance. Nothing is prepared beforehand. You can hear the music being created and destroyed as it's happening and that was as exciting for me as it is for the audience. 

This is a very risky way to perform. 
As I step up to play I have nothing, I have to create the music there in that moment. The audience is participating in that risk and that adds to the energy and creates a unique atmosphere and sense of excitement. Understanding the technicalities of the machines I'm using is not important. What is important is the energy of music being created right there in that moment. That creates a far deeper connection between myself and the audience than I've ever experience with playing back pre recorded music.

I'm very excited to announce the launch of SCB Radio, my brand new weekly show. Every week I'll be presenting a rundown of my favourite tunes, not so much in a mix format but playing tracks and putting them into a bit of context and hopefully introducing you to some music you haven't heard before.

Here's a recording of my Live Set at Festival Forte made using modular synthesisers and hardware machines. It's a bit rough in places, but you can hear the music being created and destroyed as it's happening and I love that most about performing improvised live sets. So I wanted to share the recording with you.
