Milan-based Tobia Coffa, one of the AMAM roster's most valuable players, is stepping on up with his next full EP, with the nonchalant title Get Over It. Whereas a lot DJ/producers nowadays love to share their parents' musical history and the bass instrument they played in sixth grade, Tobia gets straight to the point in his short-buGt-sweet Facebook biography: “Living, eating and breathing music. Currently engaged in a serious relationship with his faithful bong.” And it's clear that creating impeccable tracks is his focus, not tedious self-aggrandizing.

“Presence” is one of the more playful AMAM tunes heard this year, a low-swung strut paving the way for handmade keystrokes and jumpy acid accents—managing to be both “cool” and “hot” simultaneously. “Perspectives” has a similar skitterg swing, but with a more atmospheric build to cushion it in between the clouds. 

Consider those two cuts the sunny-side up; flip this baby over and things take a darker turn. “Detachment” has a dark, menacing snarl to it, no less uppity or body-moving, but might might put an evil grin onto your face. Then, fellow Italian producer Francys—known for his work withBerlin labels Souvenir and AEON—stirs up its ingredients into a cauldron for a swirling, bubbling remix that increases the energy factor while retaining the original's best elements. Finally, as a digital bonus, Tobia offers “Conscience”, a synthetic soul-seeking number with deep flourishes of optimism over a house beat. Get over it, get into it!

Its time for that midweek wind down once again. This week we are graced with the sultry sounds of Pittsburgh-bred zen, as provided for by the young, deeply talented, Tülpa. At 15 years old, he has already mastered the art of bridging the gap between soulful and minimal, and we are pleased to welcome him to his very own slumber session slot.

"I've been in Ukraine for the last two months, and what really inspired this mix was what I'd listen to while I was drinking coffee downtown.  I'd just gaze out the window sipping on a latte, and damn it tasted good. So that's how I want this mix to sound... an assortment of tasty, chilled tunes for your down time."

Listeners familiar with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith's previous album Euclid (an album that prompted Dazed to call her "…one of the most pioneering musicians in the world.") will no doubt notice her heavier use of vocals on her new album EARS.  On all but one song, her gently ecstatic swells of vocals emerge to soar over a dense jungle of synths and woodwinds.

After initially composing on a Buchla analog synth, she wrote arrangements for a woodwind quintet, added vocals, and further refined the pieces with granular synthesis techniques she developed in her sound design work (she contributed sound design to Panda Bear's "Boys Latin" video, and handled sound design and original compositions for Brasilia co-written by and starring Reggie Watts).   

Kinetic arpeggios of synths pulse, often buoying her graceful vocal mantras, while woodwinds breathe and flutter, emulating the wildlife Smith observed while growing up on the West Coast (she even studied recordings of slowed down bird calls prior to composing these pieces).   Though some of her gestures echo the musical tropes used by early minimalist composers, the world she creates on EARS is uniquely hypnotic and full of life, not unlike Miyzaki's film Nausicaä, which she cites as an inspiration.
