Dirty Epic

Dirty Epic presents its eleventh episode of the Amplify Series podcasts, this time welcoming @truncate aboard.

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

In early 2011, he started the project Truncate to focus on the deeper, raw side of techno. His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

With his heavy remix, production and touring schedule there is still no slowing down for David. He continues to shape an evolving sound and to champion the Los Angeles underground.

Amplify Series 011 - Truncate

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard Berghain and KHIDI resident and BITE label boss @phasefatale for its sixteenth episode of Amplify Series.

Phase Fatale is the Berlin-based techno project of Hayden Payne. Since 2014 the New York native has earned a reputation as a techno innovator, both for the broad spectrum of dystopian, gritty, industrial- laden electronics included in DJ sets as well as his deep understanding of synthesis and sound design in his own productions.
Having released his debut album on Hospital Productions (Redeemer, 2017) and 12"s on labels such as Jealous God, Ostgut Ton and its sub label unterton, Phase Fatale has since settled into residencies at both Berghain in Berlin as well as Khidi in Georgia's capital Tbilisi. In 2018 Payne launched his own label BITE, January 2020 sees release of his second album Scanning Backwards on Ostgut Ton.
Phase Fatale's sharpened rhythmic contours in the context of his DJ sets draw on a vast repertoire of new and classic references: dark ambient drones contrast with the raw, punchy dynamics of industrial and post-punk, cold wave aesthetics combine with 4/4 functionality – all stitched together meticulously with strong atmospheric sensibilities, careful and precise mixing.

Amplify Series 016 - Phase Fatale

SYXT Podcast #03 - Ketch

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard @temudo for its nineteenth episode of Amplify Series.

The Portuguese João Rodrigues started his alias Temudo in 2014, after a period into the Drum and Bass scene. The Drum and Bass influence can be heard not only on the detailed sound design and low end focus of his music, but also on the energetic and eclectic 3 deck sets he has to offer. As a DJ he provides a journey within the several contexts of the Techno universe, blending different years and locations with a natural and clever approach, keeping his own pace.

Over the last years he saw some of his music being widely played, such as “Tough To Say” or “The Beholder” from the EPs “Unnecessary” and “Not The End But a Change”, both released on Soma, or “Jack and Verge” from the collaborative EP with Nørbak “I Will Guide Thy Hand”, released on Modularz. 2021 seems to be a productive year, with the debut on Ben Klock’s Klockworks and Oscar Mulero’s Warm Up with 2 acclaimed EPs.

João describes himself as a nerd for audio processing, composing techniques and solving puzzles in the pursuit of the perfect mix. His background in Jazz, a Degree in Sound and a Master Degree in Music and Technology gave him the tools for the unorthodox experiments he takes in the studio. It is fair to say that Temudo is one the Portuguese Techno main characters.

Dirty Epic welcomes aboard Pi Electronics and Modal Analysis label boss @alxp for its twenty-sixth episode of Amplify Series.

3.14 is the project of DJ and producer Alex π, hailing from Athens, Greece. Based in Berlin since 2013. His record labels Pi Electronics and Modal Analysis have played an important role in the development of the experimental techno sound coming out of Greece, through the discography and events of the labels in Berlin and Athens. His sound crosses over techno, breaks and club-oriented music with the aesthetics of the 80s: industrial, noise and sub-genres.

His hardware only live sets at Berghain, Berlin Atonal, Boiler Room and worldwide have showcased the Horseman’s insurmountable skills as a producer and cemented his place in today's techno scene.
