Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 

Hello, I'm a producer and DJ going by the name of Ciel. My real name is Cindy, my pronouns are she/her, and I'm based in Toronto, Canada.

How do you deal with being nervous before a gig? 

Try not think about it :) It doesn't always work, but i find it happens from time to time if I'm really exhausted from not sleeping on tour and my brain has naturally shut off. If I can't stop thinking about it, I will try to select the first track from my vinyl bag and have a vague sense of what Rekordbox playlists I plan to play from. I ad-hoc all my sets because I love picking tracks in response to the audience's energy, but sometimes that is a lot more stressful for me and I find myself doom scrolling the USB. Devising a strategy, even if I end up not following it, does a lot to soothe my anxiety. 

Where do you see yourself musically in 2044?

I don't know what the future holds but I hope to be a full time composer of film and TV scores when I'm in my 50s and no longer want to tour constantly.

If you could have anything on your rider… What would you choose?

An indica-sativa hybrid joint (no tobacco), nice bottle of orange wine, German flat peaches, and a bathroom in the booth (anything is possible, right?)

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Less celebrity worship, less influencer culture, less fame & money-chasing, more focus on behind-the-scenes folks (whether DJs or producers or labels) who foster community and tirelessly build their local scenes.

Techy interludes, squelchy bounce and breaky surprises all define @al-den-te's unique signature sound. Aussie born, France based, al dente has been making a name for himself through carefully curated releases on @neurocrankk, @thespacebetweenus and of most recent @purespacefm.
 
“I’m always listening to lots of different types of mixes and productions, especially from the 2000-2010 period, which definitely inspire my own mixes and productions a lot. There seems to always be a specific sound or moment in an old mix or track I find, which then inspires me to produce or dig for that vibe.”
 
“I have a few gigs and releases planned over the next few months, which I’m so so excited for! It definitely feels surreal to be playing outside of Australia for the first time. I have also been feeling very inspired production wise, making as much music as possible, including some new tracks which are in this mix :) ”

Osmura w/ al dente 14

The entity known as ‘Box Elder’ has been a longstanding contributor to the Ngunnawal scene for many years. Whether it’s through his work as one-fifth of Gross Motor Play, his raucous house party sets or his many club/doof performances, Mr Box has had many fingers in many proverbial pies. Now Eora based, the semi-retired DJ returns for a rare mix for Chalkboard that has been described by some as “proggy, swampy, trancy goodness” and described by his own mother as “harsh to the ears”. Next up in our mix series is our good friend Kasper Marott - a DJ, producer, promoter and label head based in Copenhagen. Kasper is one of the heads behind the record label and event series Axces, as well as the beloved Copenhagen party series Haldisk and Essence, and the iconic Kune Festival. Since his debut in 2014, Kasper has shown his skill to produce ecstatic yet reflective tracks with a clear voice over and over. With his highly refined taste across genres he has also proven to be a unique talent as a DJ – his ear for the percussive elements of music is of a rare kind and his DJ sets sliding easily between moods, tempos and styles.

In this mix, Kasper taps into his techno-infused realms with a 3+ hour journey of uplifting euphoria at its finest. Rolling psychedelia meets ecstatic dubby delights, delivered with the unmistakable touch only Kasper can bring. He expertly masters taking the listeners through highs and lows seamlessly, in a fluid dance between tension and release, as a sonic exploration that balances chaos and control, bliss and introspection.
