Night Hex aka E-Mantra

December 2014 will see Sine Music´s release of Thomas Lemmer´s fourth album “ZERO GRAVITY”. Available on both all well-known download stores and as a CD version.
“ZERO GRAVITY” is a purely instrumental album, distinguishing it from its predecessors. A soothing blend of exquisite Ambient and experimental sounds supported by electronic beats, all luring the listener into a dreamlike state of being. Weightless, each tone magically transforming the space around you into an endless ocean of bliss.
“For ZERO GRAVITY it was important to me, that the listener could hear the infinite and expansive nature of the album, sending them into an experience of weightlessness and freedom. While listening, you really digress into the distance, in fact, even I found myself falling into an ecstatic abyss of weightlessness while producing the album. With this feeling in all its pureness and perfection, I knew that what I was doing it right.” Says Lemmer while describing the production process.
“ZERO GRAVITY needed to be different, and as a result I changed my entire production environment. Relying much more on external equipment and using a lot of analog synths to produce these sounds, paying detailed attention to every tone created.”
Creative genius Lemmer even shot the images used in the Album booklet and on the cover himself. Each beautiful picture taken of the Whistler Mountains in Canada. The design and music synchronise into a perfect work of art, expressing the essence and meaning of the album, namely expansiveness and weightlessness, tearing down the boundaries of reality and embarking on a journey into the endless.

Unless you've been living under a rock recently you'll have heard the news that Aphex Twin unexpectedly uploaded 155 of his old and unreleased tracks to Soundcloud and made them downloadable for free. Starting from his earliest demos through to known live tracks, later jungle experiments and beyond, this is the motherlode that his fans have always wanted. DJ Food, a long-time Aphex fan, has been through the entire collection with a fine-toothed comb and selected his favourites for the first half of the show this week. The hit rate was high but he's has managed to cram 31 tracks into 85 minutes to mark this unique occasion and peppered the mix with vintage interview clips of Richard James talking about his music.

This is a live recording from my last live gig at "Abstrait im Park" in Hamburg at the Yoga.Wasser.Klang festival.
I've played everything live with my KORG Electribe, the Volca Beats and the microKORG. I've prepared all sounds before the gig and then improvised. The set consists basically of four ambient songs. I hope you like it and look forward to your comments.

The "Alhambra EP"  is the first ep release from the union of Christopher Tooker with Shawna Hofmann. Reflecting their mutual love for culture, real musicianship, syncopated beats, organic instruments and modern electronic richness. The music paints a picture of their love for travel, and the excitement of physically diving into a different countries' culture. The lead track Alhambra has a distinct flavor of adventure and sensual mystery. Its a story that builds and brings you through different worlds, from a Russian spy movie to a spaghetti western. The song continually evolves from beginning to end leaving no room for repetition, only vast exploration, featuring guitars by David Satori from Beats Antique, and Evan Fraser from Stellamara, under their band name Dirtwire, as well as live recordings by Christopher Tooker of KMLN playing guitars, percussion, beer bottles, live snare and bells. "Walam" was inspired by a KMLN trip to Bali, traveling between several Indonesian islands aboard an authentic wooden Bugi pirate ship, guided by Islamic prayers coming out of  the many little mosques along their path. It's a heartfelt  journey into the dramatic and sultry side of the Middle East influence within that region. Produced, mixed and recorded in Bali, Indonesia, the smooth dub sounds are complimented by intricate live percussion by Christopher Tooker.  Nico Stojan,  a world renown DJ and producer from Berlin's infamous underground Bar 25 and Katerholzig clubs, graces the EP with 2 stellar remixes of the title track "Alhambra". The first "Dreams of Japan Remix" is a deep silky take on the original with additional percussion and layers of sonic field recordings from Japan. To finalize the EP,  Nico's "122 Rework" is a hypnotic dance floor adventure with constantly evolving chords, and a thick tribal groove, while maintaining the organic undertone musical elements of the original.

#afx \ best way i can explain this was falling in love with someone that didnt exist, it couldve been applied to anyone and everyone. liferush. I mean it was for luke's competition but when I was making it I obviously had other thoughts going around me ed. Was hard keeping it a secret from him, i had an advantage, i knew better than most what luke liked !-)  I gave the prize to the runner up, i forgot his name now. It's quite quiet becuase the sub is so loud and low, trade/off. \ Won the Future Music competition for the best Luke Vibert remix. Hailing from Constanta, a port city on the Black Sea of Romania, E-Mantra is a seasoned veteran and prolific composer, with several releases on respected labels such as Suntrip and Altar, under a variety of aliases (E-Mantra, Emanuel Carpus, Neurosect, and Night Hex, to name a few). 

Early on in his career Emanuel was influenced by a wide variety of sounds, including acid, techno, and of course trance, but he’s primarily known for representing Goa Trance and Goachill / psychill / psybient (call it what you will). 

One of the things that makes his productions special is the emotional richness he brings to his craft, as well as his ability to create a sense of traveling into other worlds (both inner and outer). If you had a rocket ship to explore the stars this would be your ‘go to’ sound track. 

Each song tells a story. This happens through his choice of sounds, and of course arrangements. Textures are lush, as melody lines are tripped out with delays that intertwine and morph in and out of the soundscape. His leads often have a modulating acid tinge that harken back to classic early TIP releases. Lush, mysterious, and completely hypnotic, these are songs that are a true joy to listen to. 

E-Mantra is always upping his game with each release, making him one of the most revered and respected producers from Eastern Europe, with several thousand followers on Soundcloud, and excellent reviews over the span of his career. 

One of the reasons he’s so popular is he represented Goa Trance at a time when Psytrance was on the upswing, so for fans of the old-school he became a sort of musical saviour. And while he’s moved on to other sounds to satisfy his artistic needs, he still maintains that respect for his roots, all with a polished, modern production that really allows the listener to get into a state of trance.
