American rock band We Are Scientists debuted in the early aughts with the angular post-punk edge of With Love and Squalor, later evolving to incorporate polished synths and expanded atmospherics on efforts like Helter Seltzer and Megaplex. Although modestly popular in America, the band was a hit in the U.K., where its sound -- part post-punk revival and part indie rock with a touch of '80s synth pop -- drew parallels to contemporaries like Editors, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol, and the Killers.

Formed on the West Coast by three California-based college students, We Are Scientists officially took flight after frontman Keith Murray, bass player Chris Cain, and drummer Michael Tapper (who replaced founding drummer/vocalist Scott Lamb) relocated to Brooklyn and began building a small but devoted following. After releasing three EPs and one independent album -- Safety, Fun, and Learning (In That Order) -- the group signed with Virgin Records and released its major-label debut, With Love and Squalor, in early 2006. The effort peaked at ten on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and eventually was certified gold in the U.K.

In 2008, We Are Scientists -- reduced to a duo comprising Cain and Murray after Tapper parted ways with the group -- put out its second full-length album, Brain Thrust Mastery. Produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, the set included the singles "After Hours" and "Chick Lit." As before, the record found popularity in the U.K., where it debuted at number 11 on the albums chart. The band toured heavily in support, playing a number of European festivals and opening shows in America for Kings of Leon. As We Are Scientists prepared to record a third album, former Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows joined the lineup, and the revised band unveiled itself with the release of 2010's Barbara. That year, founding members Cain and Murray also appeared in their own series of comedy shorts, Steve Wants His Money, which aired on the Internet and ran in segments on MTV.

In late 2012, the band entered the studio in New York with producer Chris Coady (Beach House, Gang Gang Dance, Blonde Redhead) to record sessions for its fourth record. Burrows relocated to the city from England while he worked with Murray and Cain to write and record tracks for the album. Titled TV en Français, it arrived in early 2014 on 100%/Dine Alone Records and featured appearances by Rose Elinor Dougall (Mark Ronson) and Tim Wheeler (Ash).

In 2016, We Are Scientists returned with their fifth studio album, Helter Seltzer, produced by Max Hart (of Katy Perry's band). The effort charted in the Top 50 of the U.K. and Scottish charts. They returned in 2018 with their sixth effort, the polished Megaplex, also produced by Hart. Megaplex featured the singles "Heart Is a Weapon," "Not Another Word," and "Your Light Has Changed." ~ James Christopher Monger & Andrew Leahey

Been into music since I can remember, my first memory is being told off every morning for having my headphones on till 2am on school nights. Listened to pretty much anything from status quo to chart. I then found underground music and started listening to hardcore and oldskool. I think my early love for rock merged with the electro dance era and I first heard drum n bass on radio 1 and loved it.  It had high tempo, drums, bass, and extremely versatile. Started mixing in 1999. Being in to house I started on that as I was told dnb was extremely hard. I then went to garage and hip hop then once I got ok at that moved to dnb in 2001. Since then I bedroom mixed for about 5 years and then sets started coming in for local clubs. I played on UKs Finest 87.5fm for a few years and also played at 02 in Oxford, The Regal,  and ran our own event and label VORTEX. I have had the pleasure to work alongside some of the most established names such as Nicky Black market, MC fearless, drumsound, shabba d, grooverider. I have been off the scene for a few years due to shared living but I'm now back and looking to the future for bookings and some production lessons with the legendary Jaydan. International House DJ, Producer, Radio personality, Tastemaker and label boss just about sums up DJ Pioneer. A DJ since the age of 17, Pioneer’s passion for music hasn’t changed one bit as his career becomes more successful. His unique mixing ability and handpicked selection is renowned for providing an electric vibe for clubbers and radio listeners across the World. 

Originally influenced by the sound system culture and then jungle music, Pioneer started collecting vinyl whilst at school before he owned a pair of decks. He is no stranger to House and Garage music. Up until 2008, Pioneer had played on several giant Pirate Radio stations including Pure Magic, London Underground, Y2K and Déjà Vu FM. Playing at legendary events such as Pure Silk, Exposure, Sun City and Pure Old Skool to name a few. Pioneer also worked at the ‘Wired for Sound’ record store in his hometown Hackney from 2001 until its closure in 2009. This helped him to understand and appreciate other genres of music more and inspire his taste for new sounds. 

Amongst others, Pioneer was responsible for bringing a new genre to the streets in 2006. UK Funky was emerging, influenced by the Soulful, Funky House and broken beats that Pioneer was playing at the time. His hard work and ever popular club sets and had not gone unnoticed and in 2008, Pioneer progressed to legal radio and joined Kiss FM. In 2009, Ministry of Sound released the compilation ‘The Sound of UK Funky’ mixed by DJ Pioneer. Pioneer featured tracks from Robin S, Ultra Nate, Crazy Cousinz and more. This received great feedback and allowed Pioneer to feature some of the tracks he was responsible for breaking into the scene. In 2010, Pioneer began producing and made his debut with a Funky House track titled ‘Stronger’ featuring Egypt which received great support from the underground, mainstream radio and Sky TV and was also performed at the London Fashion Week.  

Pioneer is now into his 7th year on the UK’s leading dance radio station, Kiss FM. In this, time, he’s championed and played tracks which have eventually progressed onto commercial radio playlists with acts such as MK, Rudimental, Dennis Ferrer, Roska, Donaeo, Kenny Dope, Black Coffee and more recently the chart topping Storm Queen

Pioneer launched his record label in 2012, SOTU (Sounds Of The Underground) Recordings. With 12 releases to date and loads in the pipeline, the label is already proving to be success as it represents the sound of the UK club scene genres from Underground House to Bass and is home to some of the finest up and coming producers. DJ Pioneer has also remixed tracks for world famous Universal Records and has also had one of his remixes signed by Puma for their Cobra Golf advertising campaign and the ‘Cobra Golf Orange Out’ iPhone app. Pioneer’s latest single ‘Circles’ stayed at no1 in the Maltese PRS charts for 3 weeks in November 2014.

Pioneer continues to headline countless clubs up and down UK and also plays at major festivals such as HD (High Definition) and made his debut at the Isle Of Wight Festival in 2014 where he played to over 75000 people on the main stage.

Internationally, Pioneer plays regularly in Ibiza, Amsterdam, Dubai, Barcelona, Marbella, Egypt, Ayia Napa, Faliraki, Kos, Kavos, Jamaica, Mallorca, The Gambia and Northern Cyprus.
