The song was written in 1954 by pianist Errol Garner. He composed it as an instrumental and lyrics were added later by Johnny Burke.  It appears on Johnny Mathis' 1959 album Heavenly and reached number 12 on the U.S. Pop Singles chart later that year.  This is my take on it. I did it as a duet for alto and baritone sax and a full sax section joins halfway through giving it a kind of fun ending. Let me know what you think about my version of Misty. The song was written in 1962 by Antonio Carlos. This Brazilian bossa nova was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It is believed to be the second most recorded pop song in history.
I was fortunate again to use the incredible talent of Patrick Piper to sing this classic basso nova not only in English but a very special verse in Portuguese as well. Let me know your thoughts in the comments and please like and follow. Thank you for listening.

This is the second time Clifford Brown’s innovative reinvention of an obscure ballad inspired me to have a go at writing my own arrangement. “I Can Dream, Can’t I?” and the more familiar, “I’ll Be Seeing You” were composed in 1937 by Sammy Fain and Irving Kahal  for the unsuccessful Broadway stage show, “Right This Way”. Other Sammy Fain tunes that have made it into the jazz standard lexicon are “You Brought A New Kind Of Love To Me” and “That Old Feeling”. 

The ink drawing accompanying this song is another very ancient example of my early work in the visual realm.

I Can Dream, Can't I?

Since posting my relatively upbeat arrangement of I Can Dream, Can’t I? a couple of weeks ago I stumbled across some old sheet music online, which I’ve altered slightly for this version of the song. The slower tempo transforms the mood from apparently jaunty (with tears in check) to unequivocal lamentation. Now it’s a torch song.

The accompanying image, “Faery Road” is a watercolour I painted over a couple of misty afternoons some decades ago from an upstairs window of a house in Seaview, Isle Of Wight.

Die Weihnachtssongs entstanden an einem Nachmittag, ohne Vorbereitung, die Spuren waren von den Musikern bereits fertig und ich hab einfach gemacht.
Wer fragt schon nach der Tonlage ;-)
Eine schöne Erfahrung und Erinnerung.

Und wenn mir nun noch jemand verrät, wie ich die Reihenfolge hier ändern könnte, immer gern :-)
