This is the second collaborative soundtrack from Shane and James created for Ears Have Ears, the previous being 'Her Golden Threads Burned for The Birth of Daylight'. The work was put together over a stay at Shane’s place in northern NSW and combines studio, home and field recordings to create it’s varied sound worlds. Like their previous soundtrack it combines the two’s complementary skills across composition, sound treatment and synthesis.

An exclusive collaborative mix by Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore, in celebration of their performance at Dark Mofo (6 - 23 June). 

Over the past decade, these two visionary North American artists have created their own inimitable universe of light; Julianna Barwick building evocative choral symphonies, layering her own voice on top of itself to stunning effect; and Mary Lattimore conjuring expressive beauty on her forty-seven-string Lyon & Healy harp and synth effects. Both artists have released a series of fascinating records, with Mary Lattimore most recently collaborating with Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan and Heron Oblivion’s Meg Baird on two duet albums and topping year-end charts with her sublime solo album, Hundreds of Days, which New Yorker music critic, Amanda Petrusich described as “music to self-actualize by”.

Depicted is a picture of a picture of the RCA MKii synthesizer at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center from an exhibit "Sounding Circuits: Audible Histories" shown at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. These were early days in the history of electronic music. "Summer Breeze" tries to capture some of that innocence (some folks may even hear a little Laurie Spiegel in this) before it all turned into a mad rave.
This is a case study on the virtues of very light modulation - the piece is based on the sound of Plait's chord mode, with the morph feature lightly set in motion by a 1.6 volt waveform from a Zadar envelope generator which scans a  wavetable very subtly

The piece - Lafken Kürüf - has been composed from recordings taken in the south of Chile in 2015. Mixing various sounds of the wind and the ocean, as well as glimpses of voices, those emblematic sounds from my stay there are composed in a short piece transcribing the powerful sonic landscape that has accompany me during the three months spent in the Mapuche Lafkenche community of Traïtraïko Leufu. The noise of the wind on the rooftop of my house and the rumble from the Pacific Ocean close by kept me from sleeping at night as i would imagine it coming out from its bed, like in the Mapuche Lafkenche mythology.
