San Franciscan death metal horde, VASTUM, is prepared to release their second LP, Patricidal Lust, via 20 Buck Spin on November 12th. Here lies the album's title track...

VASTUM’s Patricidal Lust has been ripped from the muse’s womb through turmoil and strife, reflected not only in the morbid hyper-realism of the album’s content but in the making of the record itself which presented scenarios of devastating real life tragedy, numerous delays, departed members and a sense of frustration by all involved. It’s an album born in pain. Recorded with both Jeff Davis (R.I.P.) and later with Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios, Patricidal Lust has an atmosphere of eerie foreboding enshrouding the doomed death metal husk at its center; the cryptic dual vocal dynamic of Daniel Butler and Leila Abdul-Rauf acting as unreliable narrator on this journey through the body. The ghosts of Steer and Schuldiner echo in twisted half-remembered inference while the calculated, blunt rhythm section invoke abhorrent basement torture dungeon; captivity the only reality, death the only hope. Lyrically Patricidal Lust delves inwardly ever deeper into subject matter first seen on Carnal Law; the anguish and confusion associated with sexual abuse and incest and the blurry area where eroticism and madness vaporize into an unrecognizable fog of horror, the hellbound heart exposed. The appropriately designed cover art was erected by Italian painter Paolo Girardi.

Certain to leave a lasting impression, Patricidal Lust lies at the core of obscene abominations too real for ordinary bands to pursue. Enter VASTUM’s theatre bizarre. Sacramento technical death metal militia, ALTERBEAST, are pleased to unleash their full-length debut via Unique Leader this Spring! Titled Immortal, the eight track monster offering was meticulously assembled in several locals throughout 2013. With guitars and bass recorded at Augmented Audio in Los Angeles with former The Black Dahlia Murder bassist Ryan “Bart” Williams, vocals arranged at Mayhemeness Studios in Sacramento by Bob Swanson (Rings Of Saturn, Plague Window et al) and drums tracked at Castle Ultimate Studios with Zack Ohren (Light This City, All Shall Perish, First Blood, Cattle Decapitation, Warbringer et al), who also mixed and mastered the release, Immortal promises to deliver some of the most dynamic, instrumentally adept and plainly crushing material of the year.

Elaborates vocalist Cam Rogers of the outcome: “Immortal is what was spawned from hard work, dedication, and downright brutal musicianship. It has intricate solos, absolutely crushing interludes and brutal circle-pit anthems. ALTERBEAST sets the scene with grievous piano preceding the onset of ‘Flesh Bound Text’ which comes in with blistering drums and guitars effortlessly making their way around the fret board. Formed in 2011 under the working title Gary Busey Amber Alert (GBAA), ALTERBEAST combines the teachings of The Black Dahlia Murder, Necrophagist and Spawn of Possession with the classic death metal mastery of band’s like Dissection and Morbid Angel into an irate expulsion of sonic deviance. After a year of dedicated song-crafting, ALTERBEAST unleashed their first demo in 2012 and officially waged war on the populace with numerous shows opening for Deicide, Dying Fetus, Testament, Revocation, Exhumed, Severed Savior and many others. Their crushing live assaults combined with a DIY ethos quickly earned them a revered place within the local death metal community.

ALTERBEAST - "Mutilated Marvel"

San Antonio’s favorite blackened death tyrants, HOD, will drop their long-awaited new full-length upon the weak later this Summer. Titled Book Of The Worm, the follow-up to last year’s The Uncreated Demo teaser, which Decibel likened to a “snake eating itself and a bigger snake eating the smaller snake, a kind of infinite and horrifically malign Ouroboros,” was produced by Dennis Munoz (Solstice), features the recording lineup of guitarist Necron, vocalist Vladibeer Reebs, bassist T.A. and former drummer Dennis Sanders and boasts eight blasting psalms of deviance, decadence and overall suffering with artwork by the masterful Jon Zig (Averse Sefira, Deeds of Flesh, Pyrexia)
 
Comments the band from their den of iniquity, “Finally, Book Of The Worm is finished! Through Hell and back we went to get this completed. Comrades fell. Labels failed. Studios changed. But we soldiered forth with iron determination and it is done. Blood, sweat and sacrifice are the ingredients. Fueled by hate and blasphemy. Prepare for the storm!”
