What creates a tyrant? It certainly depends on the ability one has to control others. Mixing a religion, love and unattainable expectations, with, for example, being a Renaissance king with a great self-image and paranoid traits, the chances are high that power may end in tyranny. Especially if one is unable to control what one has closest to oneself, oneself and what one loves.

I have always been very interested in British history, and especially fascinated by the War of Roses and Tudor eras. And of course also by King Henry VIII, his six wives, conflict with the Pope, and desperate desire to have a son who could inherit the throne after him.

«The Ballad of Harry» is a bit about him. And a little about what I think is important to each and every one of us. It begins and ends with Greensleeves, which was played at Harry's court - where the myth is that he composed the song himself.

We can agree on one point : "Paaf" isn't the most elaborated track name I ever found. PROGRAM NOTE
Although I have lived in cities most of my life, I do not think of myself as a city person and have always felt more connected to the outdoors rather than to asphalt and tall buildings. Many of my works are inspired by nature, and I am deeply concerned about environmental issues, particularly climate change.

Of the many excellent books on the environment, one of the best and the one that moves me most is Eaarth by Bill McKibben, a famed author, educator and environmentalist. McKibben’s assertion is that we have waited too long, and that massive climate change is not only unavoidable, but already underway. He states that we may as well call this new planet Eaarth, because it is still recognizable, but fundamentally different. I feel strongly that he is correct, and wanted to express this in a musical way. A work for orchestra, chorus and narrator seemed like the ideal vehicle for reflecting on this critical issue.

Choral Suite from A New Eaarth consists of the four choral movements from A New Eaarth for orchestra, but with piano rather than orchestra. I designed these movements so they could be performed as a stand-alone suite, and in fact, for the purpose of rehearsals, I composed the choir and piano versions first, and then orchestrated them so they could be integrated into the whole orchestral work.

The suite includes texts by Wendell Berry, James Joyce, Percy Bysshe Shelley and William Wordsworth. The poems, at least as part of the entire orchestral version, allude to the four ancient classical elements—earth, air, fire and water—a theme that permeates many of my other works.

A New Eaarth was commissioned by the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association through a Music Alive! residency grant from New Music USA and the League of American Orchestras.

In a world that often trembles under the weight of conflict and noise, love remains our quiet rebellion.
A gesture, a word, a melody — sometimes that’s all it takes to remind someone they’re not alone.

These tender lines, written and sung by the beautiful soul of Oddrun Eikli, carry that reminder — and borrow from the timeless words of Emily Brontë, who left us far too soon, yet gifted the world with her poetry:

“He’s more myself than I am.
Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
If raindrops were kisses, I’d send you showers.
If hugs were seas, I’d send you oceans.
And if love was a person, I’d send you me.”

Let’s keep sharing love — through notes, through silence, through presence.
Because love is the only thing that grows when it’s given. 💙

Sol Selectas run by Sabo welcomes back Unders who has been a prominent feature in the label's back catalogue. Unders has also contributed to other imprints including Kindisch, Under Your Skin, Sincopat and Katermukke along with his own Happy Camper Records.

Unders, is a producer from Holland, who had a break through song called “Syria” on Sol Selectas three years ago, and is a huge fan of the band Morphine, so he created this dance floor remix of their track “The Other Side” for his DJ sets.

With the intention of keeping the original Morphine legacy alive along with the spirit of deceased lead singer Mark Sandman, the original members of the band have agreed to officially release this incredible remix, as every time Unders played it the reaction was incredible.

Already rated by Mixmag as one of the hottest tracks of the Summer in 2017, even though it had never even been released, this special remix of an American classic will surely take its listeners on a journey to “The Other Side”, where “life is better”.

Morphine was an Alternative Rock group from Boston which formed in 1989. Morphine’s unique sound combined blues and jazz elements with more traditional rock arrangements, and the lead singer Mark Sandman had a distinctively deep and laid-back tone. After five successful albums in the early '90s they disbanded after Mark Sandman tragically died on stage of a heart attack. The founding members reformed into the band Vapors of Morphine, maintaining much of the original style and sound.

With a slow, smouldering sound consisting of saxophones, soft percussion, two finger bass and beatnik-style poetry lyrics, the bands bluesy sound has been captured fully in Unders stunning rework.

The lyrics of the track talk of “crossing over to the other side” and this version pays homage to the original and celebrates the living achievements of Mark Sandman before he sadly passed away.

Created by Helia Jamali, the Artwork was influenced by the song lyrics, and is intended to be a visually stimulating journey to an unknown but familiar place “with the preacher's wife”.
