KIK's - History Of Eatbrain MIX

We kick off our Autumn release schedule by taking no prisoners. We found a glitch in the Matrix. And through this glitch a portal, that once you play Neurofunk Drum & Bass down it, that 2 futuristic cyber soldiers appear,
brandishing heavy drum & bass artillery and plenty of Prawn cocktail crisps for supplies.

What was even more shocking was that the 2 soldiers were future selves of producers `Cyntax` and `The Fi5th` Cyntax handed me over a dusty USB stick. patted me on the shoulder, before nodding to The Fi5th before jumping back down the portal just before it closed.

It took me a while to decrypt the USB but once I had done this, and had gone through its contents. I knew the future of Drum & Bass was in my hands, quite literally. 

The contents... 2 tracks depicting what Neurofunk Drum & Bass would sound like 10 years from now. 

I decided to show a few people, but was warned harshly that people would just not be ready for this type of cyber connected, audio, neuro-lization of the senses.

So it is without further ado, you have been warned before listening to the latest Dirtbox release at your own peril. This will change the landscape as we know it.

We throw on our 4 inch gloves on this one and get ready to smash your teeth down the back of the throat.

Heavy, violent Neurofunk. Catapulting into the first drop with a relentless grip on your nervous system.

Some may recognise this from multiple sets the past 12-15 months from the likes of Zombie Cats and Jade Its ever recognisable synth work flows tremendously across the track and audio programming is a pure 10/10 leaving you bloodied and battered from the Face Pound.

We finish off the release by bringing in extra reinforcements, The exciting sounds of The Fi5th bless this one with techno driving bass and epic synth stabs to disjoin your brain cells in every way possible.

A relentless juggernaut of Neuroscape sounds fill your ears and sends you to a far off place in your mind where you feel the robots have taken over, and this is their soundtrack.

Night has fallen, the threat of extinction riding on the edge of its transition. Decaying and contorted faces of the undead leer from the shadows, twisted limbs reaching from the darkness towards the eternal signal - driven to crush its subversive broadcast and extinguish the final beacon. A single being stands in their way - the strongest of his kind, the last of a genetic line extending into a derelict past with an imperative to preserve the future. An arsenal of sonic weaponry residing within the lines of his palms, drawn forth through the ancient forms manifested by long-dead masters. His swift movement amongst the shuffling army is efficient - acute strikes snap limbs, raw concentrated power crushes bone, low-frequency techniques leaving little behind from the weight of brutal molecular disruption. The depth of the forest was unknown to those who lived at its verge. Shadows cast from the dense canopy seemed to reach out towards those who passed close by, wisps of darkness unfurling and twisting around the limbs of the youngest that dared to play at its sinister edge. The oldest stories of its roots passed across the creaking voices of the town pensioners hunched in the safety of others, discretely whispered and shot through with fearful looks. The allure of that dense and ancient place stretched back eternal, and bitter consequence waited for those who breached its dark heart.  The crew ignored the nonsense of such crones, pulling the carts of equipment under the cover of dusk until the sounds of the town were but a memory. The speaker stacks were raised against the night, strings of lights hung between the trees and purity of disturbed bass rolled against the surrounding trunks as they disentangled themselves from the mundane fiber of the lives they left behind. Twisting against one another as they let flood serotonin delight, they ignited an orgy of sonic symbiosis as the rave found its wings and took flight. The spores drifted imperceptibly into the clearing from the darkness around, lodging without discomfort in the eyes, ears and noses of the gathered young. And then the screaming started, the undulating mass of the gathering turned inward… devouring itself as limbs were separated from bodies, necks ripped as skin tore loose and the blood flowed freely over the gnashing faces of those left alive at the KILL PARTY… 
  
GYDRA return to EATBRAIN in force, following up their well-received CYBORG EP with the dynamic, darkly driven but funk-laced assault of the KILL PARTY EP. From the old-school drenched piano and ultrafunk of the title track, to the playful sinister intent of PRIMITIVE INSTINCT, the filthy sub explorations of PROBLEM and the predatory sensibilities of IKRA – the 4 tracks within display the dynamic and exploratory character of the production outfit. This is Russian neurofunk at its finest, delivered on the platform that’s tailored exactly to the premiere kinetic nature of its content.

A shadow fell with bleak weight against the broken cityscape as the towering frame of the scaled behemoth stood above the now desolate metropolis. Cold eyes flickered within the recesses of its heavy skull, surveying its fragmented and twisted domain for any remnants of the fleshy morsels of the living who had once resided there. Beneath its talons shifted stone and metal, groaning under its weight in a cacophanus lament for what had been. It lumbered forward through the carnage of the city, led by its singular mind, barely noticing as each thundering step felled the last vestiges of that once grand city around it. This city on the rocky plain, a pinnacle of the species that built it, now laid to waste by this overwhelming titan of entropy and fury. The towering skyline collapsed around the beast as it effortlessly shifted and demolished with single sweeps of its tail. Issuing a howling, guttural roar of pure, brutal energy, its inhuman rage resounded throughout the city, angular audio reflections bouncing across the broken buildings and striking fear deep into the hearts of those who still clung to a wretched life. They haunted the shadows, hiding from the its ravenous hunger, hidden away in fear amongst the crumbling concrete. With a burst of sudden fury the beast twisted, striking at a skyscraper and tearing it open, spilling the mess of its insides and the once precious multitude of human things across the streets below. But missing was the softness of the meal it craved. It lumbered onward, the strange paths which this insignificant species had laid, leading it through the decaying land... a constant drive for flesh feeding its voracious desire - that endless, unfillable void. Its stride echoed with the ominous assurance of recurrence, its cycle of consumption would begin anew.

Deep within the shifting sands lay the remains of a once great city, a monument to the hubris of those who had once thought they could conquer the indomitable forces of the planet. To hold back the everpresent encroachment of the dunes they had raised walls of great heights, built upon the sacrifice of those least fortunate among them, those condemned to work beneath the blistering heat of the land. It was through their blood that the city was built, through their blood that the fortunate lived in such an otherwise inhospitable climate. As the death of these sacrifices increased however, they bore new life elsewhere. Their blood, seeping through the cracked desert soil, awakened something long since sealed away.

Fed by their misery, the creature’s power grew beneath the dunes. For each that fell it became stronger, its hunger rising as it tasted more and more that which had been denied to it for so long. Upon the night of the sun’s peak it rose, driven by the heat that still radiated from the earth. It was a malstrom of sand, fire, and bone, an amalgamation of destruction which surged across the landscape. What little life there was in this desolate place was subsumed into its maw, becoming a part of the dynamo which swept towards the city. Its winds battered against the walls, grinding their stones to dust which only furthered the creature’s power. In minutes it had broken through, and as the city was swallowed within the vortex the DUST DEVIL reclaimed for the desert what was its own once again.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN with the release of DUST DEVIL, a five track EP featuring collaborations with TRILO & CHASER. DOUBLE RUSH features the powerful combination of MIZO & CHASER, as well as the combination of a frantic topline and charging bass which work together to move the track forwards at a rapid pace. DUST DEVIL whips this dynamic energy into a further frenzy as its basses whirl with unrestrained fury atop a devastating drumbeat. An observer stood upon a rooftop, gazing out over the metropolis that shimmered beneath him. To all outward appearances, it was an idyllic landscape. Busy & bustling, sure, but in ways that spoke of efficiency and the success of their kind. To them, it was a monument to their collective greatness that they could construct the steel-boned monoliths that reached upward to the heavens, but for the lone rooftop figure, a very different view was laid out below. His gaze cut through the superficial, and saw the city for what it truly was: a TORN PLACE.

Within his eyes those same monoliths represented not success in their glittering facades, but rather the greed, avarice, and corruption of those who dwelled within. He saw the rampant struggle to reach their peaks, the drive to triumph over one another, that also drove its champions to madness as they buckled under the weight of what they had done. As his gaze fell downwards the observer saw the destitute prostrate themselves upon the city’s streets, forced by some cruel twist of fate or the actions of those whom had climbed above. They gathered on these avenues as plaque within veins, their continued accumulation a warning sign of the city’s impending cardiac arrest. Alongside them streamed endless waves of vehicles, emitting choking clouds of black filth that spiralled into the air. So constant were they, that day and night a smog hung above the city, a poison that hung as a sword above all. As the observer took in these things, the city itself seemed to morph before his very eyes, changing its form in accordance with its monstrous nature. Faces upon billboards became malevolent visages with gaping mouths stretched wide in hunger. The towers, once glittering, unfurled before him like the tendrils of some primordial behemoth. All rushed towards him, consuming him within an endless expanse of darkness which was dispelled a moment later. The observer stood once more upon the rooftop, and the city shimmered once more beneath him. But for he who had seen its true nature, it could never be home again.

FOURWARD return to EATBRAIN with the TORN PLACE EP, their second release following their breakout Wolfe EP on the imprint. The four tracks within feature their sound in full, with the titular TORN PLACE providing grounds for it alone whilst other tracks feature a who’s-who of fellow heavy hitters on the EATBRAIN lineup. TORN PLACE opens the EP with cinematic flair, in which otherwordly narration and frantic basses occupy space in equal measure. FOURWARD combine with eatbrain bossman JADE on MAKE SOME, a driving track that pushes forward on the constant report of its stabbing bassline. REDPILL brings his horror infused sound to the table with DIGEST, a collaboration that calls on the pairing’s jump up influences amongst sinister saws. ELBOW features the sounds of L 33 alongside the FOURWARD crew and rises upon booming percussion before launching into a peak section of mechanized highs and rumbling lows. With the TORN PLACE EP, FOURWARD launch their multifaceted sound further onwards and upwards.
