To celebrate what they consider to be their strongest year to date, Lifestyle deliver with their first ever Annual release to see off the remarkable year they've had. Lifestyle Annual 2017 features a compilation of the best tracks from the last 12 months, alongside 8 brand new pieces from a range of fresh to existing artists to really top it off.

''After attending this years Boomtown, and meeting up with Volatile Cycle and Barbarix backstage at the Scrap Yard, we got chatting about drum and bass and life and then put in place plans for these lads to get involved with the label. To kick their tenture off, we received an absolute belter from the production quartet that is Volatile Cycle, Barbarix and Blockdodger. It's safe to say 'Manifest' kills it from the outfit that put together the official Boomtown anthem. We're incredibly stoked to have this lot on-board, watch out for more from them soon. 

Next up our German mates Instinkt are back for more on Lifestyle, with a track you'd expect only of this powerhouse duo. 'Conan' is big, bad and schmutzig. Following on and keeping it international, from New Zealand we have the Kiwi's Obeisant and Victim with their first release on the label, providing us with the dangerously large ‘6 Months’. Then to wrap up this sampler, there’s the slick liquid roller 'Born In November' from Slovak and German production trio Humanon, another debut on Lifestyle!

What a year we've had, and we couldn't look to end it on a better note with this annual. A string of digital digits ran across the face of the clock above me as my foot hovered above the gas pedal, spiraling downwards towards the zero that was my beginning. I’d done this before, but that very fact made me even more nervous as my vehicle sat alone on the racetrack. I looked back up, and saw the clock tick forwards one second. Cursing myself for losing that precious second, I rocketed forwards along the track, slamming myself into my seat with the near instantaneous acceleration. Then to my right I saw it. The hologram projection of my previous run taking the corner a half car length ahead of me, ruthlessly efficient in its angle of attack as I knew myself to be. Cursing a different past self this time, I diverged, angling for the next curve that I knew to be approaching.

Though I had lost ground to myself on the first turn, we were once again tied as we came out of the second corner. My mind spun at the speed of my wheels as I shot down the course’s straightaway, moving towards the final section of tightly wound turns that would lead myself and I to what would surely be a photo finish. I’d taken the turns perfectly the first time, could I really do so again? The stakes were too high for me not to beat myself, as I’d wagered my entry into the race series on doing so. Then I remembered what I’d thought as I looked upon those banked turns for the first time, how I had slowed ever so slightly to hit them perfectly as I considered their possible other use. Therein was my shot, the boxcar roll that could still yet win me my wager. Thus it was that I drove my pedal to the floor as I approached the first bank, flinging myself and my vehicle into the air as I launched from what I had also seen as a ramp. There in the air there was no looking back, for I’d wagered it all to win the TIME ATTACK.

EATBRAIN mainstay L 33 surges forth from the starting line with his latest EP, TIME ATTACK. Following in the wake of recent releases on the label as a part of his duo with MC Coppa, Lights Out, L 33 returns for a solo EP driven by his markedly high octane sound and the bassweight roars which its speed produces as he races to the fore for the EATBRAIN horde.

While the doors to our favourite skanking spots have remained closed throughout the summer, many of us have found solace in the comfort of Netflix and cinema snacks on the sofa. However on the 10th September Austria’s finest, Mainframe Recording’s are shaking things up with ‘Popcorn Machine’. This latest release sees imprint owner Disaszt team up with neuro nobleman The Clamps resulting in a high energy dance-floor track which will kick off the cobwebs and have you ready to return to the raves.

The intro combines spacey pads with tribal hits of percussion, the beats thicken with layers of quick breakbeats before a heavily modulated vocal brings hints of the techy territory in which this track resides. The drop reveals a tear-out path carved of twisting risers and an unavoidably head-banging drum pattern. The dark, heavy and distorted low end combined with the quick, plucking drops give ‘Popcorn Machine’ a vibe of intense action and impending menace worthy of the silver screen.

Well past the centenary of their catalog, Mainframe Recording’s reputation for releasing the highest quality drum and bass has long been established.
