In the dying light of each day they gathered, the long shadows of the dojo scaffold casting darkness across the solemn faces of the keepers of their art. They spoke of he who blocked the crushing sea of extinction in the depths of each night, shielding the fragility of life with the perfection of his brutal and efficient form. The eyes of the living only greeted each new day because of the immortal techniques that had now been passed to them, the new guardians of the beacon, masters of an art now evolved – watching, waiting, perfecting their deadly art… ready for the return of those beyond death.

Following up the immensely successful Karate LP from core Eatbrain artist L 33, comes a deadly second approach to some of the most blinding tracks from the album - reimagined by a collection of apex predators in drum & bass. PROLIX delivers an exhilarating and forward-leaning groove with his take on CLUBLIFE, whilst JOE FORD percussive prowess and intricate and on-point production pushes DROP IT DOWN LOW into dynamic and fresh realms. The Russian producer has continued to deliver only the darkest tracks for a string of high-profile, independent labels and his offering on Dutty Audio upholds this tradition. He delivers a solid rework of Optiv & BTK’s ‘Gateway’, originally released on Virus Recordings, taking the already gyrating track into even choppier territory.

Inviting you into the chaos, Tobax’s uncompromising remix proves why the young, high-calibre artist has been shoved into the spotlight over recent months, with moody LFO bass stabs and quickly-firing beat patterns. The cold, sharp light of the full moon wrapped each of them in its bitter grasp, tendrils of the deepest anger and regret encircling them as the shadows from the dense branches of the grim forest of their surroundings. Their old friend lay prone at their feet, the gun that ended that precious spark of consciousness still smoking in Lenny’s hands, his weathered face cast down, cold eyes staring at the carnage of his making. Blood flowed darkly from the head wound, a growing treacle puddle reflecting the moon above in its metallic embrace, each of their faces around it mirrored darkly in that slowly expanding pool of their brother’s end. The curse that had escaped his lips as he realized the betrayal was seared into their ears, the final glance spiked through with heartbreak entwined in deepest hate burned into their retinas. But for all their regret, their patriarch had spoken, made himself clear… the family is violence, but it is not the twisted pleasures that he had chased, and the family line, when crossed – is the very end of consciousness.

L 33 cracks open 2018 with his inimitably heavy style of ultra funky and future-focused neuro on home imprint, Eatbrain. Most people don’t think too much about their food. It’s understandable really, we humans as a species don’t like to think when we’re hungry. After all, that’s energy that could be spent chowing down on whatever happens to be put in front of us at the time. There’s something special about food and what it does to our brain, how happy it makes us to do such a simple thing as refueling our bodies. Everyone’s got their favorites, delectable delicacies of which they just can’t get enough. All of these preferences are all well and good, but I must confess that I consider them a bit inferior. I am of course a connoisseur for whom only the best will do, not only just for dinner but for lunch and breakfast too.

As far back as I can remember I’ve always craved new tastes, new flavors to excite my tongue and make my heartbeat race. As a child I loved the usual things like candy and dessert, but such simple things get old when you eat them all the time. Though I even ate my vegetables and found their flavours fine, my boredom with these basic tastes inched closer every day. I tried the foods of other countries, even haggis and its ilk, but still I was not satisfied with these tastes from far away. What I craved was something more, something viscerally exciting, a meal I could make myself without a recipe in writing. It needed to be bold in taste with complexity of texture, with the slightest hint of savagery and a pinch of salt for flavor. You see I’ve finally found it, a meal that I can savor, and its standing right before me exhibiting curious behavior. Now’s the best part, my favorite time of the day. Twelve o'clock on the dot, it’s LUNCHTIME. Won’t you stay?

REDPILL serves up a delicious new EP on EATBRAIN with the release of LUNCHTIME, following up the Call of the Warchief EP which started the year for him on the label. The five track EP features his uniquely horror infused sound in full, as well as a collaboration with neurofunk champion MERIKAN aptly entitled CHILDREN OF CHAOS, which rages upon the strength of its furious bassline and fast paced snares. The titular LUNCH TIME features monstrous vocal intoned with evil intent, whilst the syncopated rhythms of BOOM BOOM create explosive shockwaves as the EPs second track. AND THE HERO WILL FALL narrates a tragic epic with its grand arpeggios and harmonic bass and is followed by the aforementioned collaboration before FUSION synthesizes the disparate aspects of the EP within a single track. Placing singular focus on his sinister sound, LUNCHTIME shows REDPILL operating at peak performance.

Amidst a vast lattice of cable & wire, a sole individual worked with inhuman fervour at his craft, bearing forth a constant flow of invention unto the dismal depths of his laboratory. He had sequestered himself here in this catacomb of creation with single-minded purpose, devoted entirely to a code of his own as he endeavoured towards all that had not been done before. Without thought for life or limb he set himself frantically to his craft. Before him, every vial was an opportunity, every electrical surge a moment of bliss, and every elemental synthesis a pathway forwards into the unknown.

For weeks, months, and even years the individual worked at a feverish pace, a hermit within an ever growing den of discarded reagents and the husks of former inventions repurposed for a greater cause. For all of his creations, such time alone had begun to take its toll upon the man, and as it marched on new thoughts came to his mind. “Escape....” came first, “I must show them the way” then came second, bearing upon him with an inescapable force. With his frenzy now turned outwards the inventor burst forth from the doors of his laboratory, clutching a variety of inventions in his grasp. Bathed in the light of the world beyond, the inventor sprinted into the street, shouting of his miracles as his SANITY TRIP drove his feet.

NUKLEAR debuts his first full artist EP on EATBRAIN with SANITY TRIP. Long known as a premiere MC within the neurofunk scene, NUKLEAR has appeared on multiple collaborations across EATBRAIN as well as RAM Records, Virus, and Viper. In bringing together many influences such as the heavy metal sonics of WHIPLASH, SANITY TRIP sees NUKLEAR bring the focus firmly to his own dynamic lyrical abilities across five tracks with an equally diverse lineup of co-conspirators including MINDSCAPE, PYTHIUS, STATE OF MIND, TEDDY KILLERZ, THE CLAMPS, & KRITIX.
