Although dawn was just breaking, the beach was abuzz with activity. A swarm of surf enthusiasts and their shieldlike boards had gathered like a phalanx on the shores in anticipation of what was to come that day, hoping to be the first to catch the perfect waves that were set to soon crest atop the glistening tropical waters for the ride of a lifetime. Rumors abounded as to why the waves had come, from the mixture of a myriad of perfect climatic conditions to the arrival of a singular school of mystically empowered fish to the reef that lay beneath them. Whatever the case, with the rising of the sun came waves of greater and greater magnitude and a cacophony of cheers from the beachfront as the first boards were launched into the maw of the roaring ocean.

As the idyllic day continued above the waters a sinister presence circled below, its eyes gazing hungrily at the ovoid shadows that flit above the water. The native sharks of the reef, normally content to feed on the buffet of fish that it housed, were afflicted with an unnatural hunger. Thus it was that when the perfect moment presented itself, they struck, abandoning their solitary ways and falling upon a poor hapless surfer as a ravenous pack. The small jaws afforded by their shallow habitat tore chunks of flesh from the surfer’s body in a death by 1000 cuts, and yet the mercy of death would not be granted to this thrillseeker. As he returned to the shore, bloodied and with protruding bones, many fellow surfers flocked around him to question his condition. In response, all the surfer could muster was “the waves… were so… GNARRRRRRRRR”, before leaping upon his compatriots with the selfsame bloodlust of the sharks which had granted him this new and unending hunger.

MNDSCP returns to EATBRAIN with the three terrifying tracks that make up his latest EP, GNAR, summoning a deluge of subsonic sound waves for the label’s horde to feast their ears upon from the biting bassline of FLESH EATER to the high power percussion of HAZE.

For yet another seminal release, Ignescent Recordings have proven their ability to deliver only the most unforgiving cuts. Whether it’s newcomers they’ve spotted across the huge expanse opened up by cyberspace, or for more renowned neuro pioneers, Ignescent have continued to add talent after talent to their ever-widening roster. And with that comes a stellar back catalogue, one littered with releases like the one forthcoming from production outfit Gydra. And alongside Gydra, a group who always offer up a formidable selection of cuts, Ignescent is set to continue their unadulterated takeover, one which has seen them rise to prominence against even the most intimidating heavyweights within the scene.

‘Tranquilizer’ and ‘Epoch’ present a double sided single which is sure to roll through club systems mercilessly, and first track ‘Tranquilizer’ is an atomic bomb to the aural synapses. A foreboding, cataclysmic introduction rolls you through guttural bass rhythms and a cutting groove which snaps with a formidable bite throughout each carefully layered segment. Bit by bit the record begins to pulse with power, channelling a bassline which grabs hold effortlessly and carries you alongside. The masterful production standards held by Gydra are presented from beginning to end; once again smacking you face first with the reason why Ignescent have pulled them into their groundbreaking roster. Gydra aren’t afraid to cause collateral damage with each one of their outputs, hitting harder and harder every time.

On the flipside, ‘Epoch’ throws itself out with grabbing claws, snapping violently at your synapses with every fresh stab of sonic. With each subsequent tide of clunking percussion and powerfully punching drums, Gydra go for the main sound arteries, showcasing their undeniable affliction for the darker worlds they take pride of place in. Having already detonated releases on the likes of definitive imprints Eatbrain, Renegade Hardware and Bad Taste, they’re here to make their mark on the independent which is currently slicing their way into the genre’s fabric. Together, their invasion is imminent and these two tracks from Gydra go on to demonstrate that fact. Ignescent and Gydra are about to filter their way throughout the genre’s consciousness.

One summer Sunday an all-white Cadillac sped down the highway, glistening under the rain of sunbeams that fell upon its exquisitely polished surface. Within its luxurious velour interior sat a single woman dressed in her Sunday best, a gown of lilac white bedecked with rosaries and other jewelry of exquisite beauty. Though aged, the woman sat with a characteristic grace that evidenced her proper upbringing, and her hands rested calmly at ten and two upon the vehicle’s steering wheel. Fresh from worship, her thoughts drifted to her grandchildren and the cookies she would prepare for them when she arrived home until they were interrupted in a manner she deemed most uncouth as another vehicle sped past her, honking its horn in a taunt before squeezing into place just ahead of her own.

With the selfsame grace of her being, the woman sighed to herself and reached into her vehicles glove compartment, procuring from within a forty-four caliber handgun. Upon looking up, she noticed that the vehicle before her had slowed to an unreasonable velocity, forcing her to travel at a speed that would prevent her from having her baking done on time for her grandchildren. At this thought the woman’s demeanor began to shift considerably, and her face contorted into a rage filled grin. Pressing the gas pedal of her vehicle to the floor, she shot out from her lane and saddled up alongside the offending vehicle. Rolling down her hand-crank windows with a supernatural vigour, she lowered her sunglasses to reveal a pair of piercing obsidian eyes to the driver beside her. “Alright alright,” she seethed at him “I think you’ve had your fun”. At her sight he shrieked and in fear exclaimed “That grandma’s got a gun!’ .

Longtime EATBRAIN collaborators L 33 & MC COPPA return to the label to debut the newest release from their joint project LIGHTS OUT with the ROADS OF RAGE EP. Formed of the pair’s shared enjoyment of high octane Drum & Bass pared with an energetic vocal layer, LIGHTS OUT have recently burst onto the scene in full force with multiple performances, mixes, and a debut release on their namesake label Lights Out Audio. Now returning to the genesis point of their collaborative endeavour, LIGHTS OUT deliver a furious three-track EP to the Eatbrain horde with the aptly named ROADS OF RAGE.
