The quickly climbing UK based producer, Artifact, drops two room-rattling Neurofunk tunes to mark his first appearance with the Nocid Business brand. Mind bending beats with a captivating ethos is common territory for Artifact and this release lives up to that expectation.

Kickstarting the EP is ‘Unleashed’, a wild track bursting with energy driven by buzzing bass and dark pads that set the ominous tone. This industrial monster is a hard one so prepare to feel the weight of its disposition.

Second on the EP is ‘Dystopia’, a dark techy track that punches with incisive drums and crunchy bass that billows out into the airwaves. This entrancing piece bridges the gap between the robotic and the organic with twanged string melodies, hollow hand drums, and glitched chants engulfed by snarling patches. With an ever-changing presence you may as well keep this one on repeat.

Already firmly established as one of Europe’s leading taste-maker drum & bass labels, Blackout follow Telekinesis’ rip-roaring ‘Fight Club’ EP with Edge – a collaborative five tracker from German duo Neonlight & fellow German producer Wintermute.

Set for release on March 29th, ‘Edge’ adopts a diverse approach to the genre by moving away from the neurofunk style Blackout have become synonymous with, to craft something altogether harder, darker and edgier. Lead track ‘Guinea Pig’ is all broken beat, sharp synths and raging percussion, whilst ‘Influx’ works more conventional drum & bass rhythm, amidst a darker, almost gothic backdrop. Neonlight – having already released twice via Blackout – and Wintermute also extend their collaborative imagination on the lighter ‘Posthuman’ with faded, bleepy news-bulletin interludes serving as just one example of how intricate and well-balanced their sound design is right across the EP.

Given the vibrancy and darker, club-ready feel of ‘Edge’, Neonlight & Wintermute thus feel like natural choices to continue Blackout’s fast-building legacy and further cement themselves as some of Europe’s go-to drum & bass producers.

Hailing from Toulouse, French trio Signs have already carved themselves out an interesting niche within the nu-skool neuro scene, stamping their unique output into the public’s consciousness with big releases on Red Light Records, Bad Taste Recordings, C4C Recordings, and RAM Records

Their beats are sparse and militant with each drum hit afforded the space to dominate the audio spectrum, with pauses and moments of silence, delicately programmed into the DNA of the drum tracks, playing big part in the groove’s forward momentum, propelling the riddims forward and creating a dynamically powerful and compelling backbone for the rugged, tough basslines to shine.

The tunes are punctuated with wild Reese fluctuations and sci-fi sound effects reminiscent of the Wormhole-esq techstep from the end of the last century, with dark atmospherics ushering each trackdown the rabbit hole and into the dank, hellishbasements of debauchery that tunes like these call home.
