The GRAVE DIGGER sighed as he planted his shovel firmly into the muddy soil of a new plot in the cemetery, exhausted from the endless toil that had been forced upon those of his profession.Though it had only been days since an outbreak of a strange new disease had swept over the city, it felt as though an eternity had passed. The countless graves that had been dug now threatened to merge beneath his feet, their dividing walls weakened by the torrential rains that seemed to swirl endlessly in the sky above and the space between each had begun to shrink out of necessity. Under these rains it seemed the work could never end, for the graves never truly settled. Many had been found eroded by the flooding, revealing the contorted and rotted forms of their inhabitants which jutted through the sludge at odd angles. Indeed, so heavily did it seem to pour that some graves remained empty after the night, the corpses formerly within them unable to be accounted for amidst the inundated ground. 

For all the years he had spent in this position, the GRAVE DIGGER had not seen a worse combination of conditions. It felt as though the world itself was conspiring against the inhabitants of his city, who could scarcely see their dead who had been with them in life merely hours ago. He expected to join them soon enough, having handled the corpses of those who had passed for days on end. Perhaps, he mused, he already had. With so many empty graves, and no bodies to be found, who was to say that one wasn’t his? Where had he been before this had begun? Memory hardly seemed to matter anymore. If the dead truly did shamble among the living within this cursed city, perhaps he should count himself lucky to be amongst those who lived on in death above the ground.

Rumours of the infernal mechanism were rife amongst the population, that somewhere deep in the sublevels of the city it waited with the eternal patience that belongs only to machines. It was said that those people whom the system had broken, whose minds had snapped – ejecting them from the social architecture… were first incarcerated, analyzed and then taken to it to be erased completely. He was about to find out the truth of this, dragged from his metallic cell by those machine claws, his arms bound tightly across his chest and vocal chords paralyzed. He wanted to scream, terror engulfing him and winding around his vertebrae, giving birth to a black hole within the pit of his stomach... but all that emerged was a whimper of despair. It was registered by the synthetic mind and catalogued in its vast archive of variations of this moment - its casual analysis of this journey to death. The chamber was incomprehensibly vast… and it was there waiting, reaching with its threatening appendages from the shadows, its diabolical jaws enshrouded in the dull green light of a vast viewing screen displaying the symbol of the architect. The teeth started that relentless slicing, the very ground trembling through the power of its mighty workings, the mechanism to be his absolute obliteration… those claws pulling him inexorably towards the end as the viewscreen changed and flashes the word ‘goodbye’. The GRINDER completes its work. In the almost oblivious streets above, a faint rumble is felt – knowing, fearful looks are briefly exchanged before the citizens hurry on with their business.
 
Apex neuro and tech producer MAZTEK arrives with his first full EP on leading d&b label, EATBRAIN. Following up appearances on the label’s Tales of the Undead and Mirror Universe VA LP’s, the GRINDER EP sees Maztek deliver 4 tracks of high-grade dancefloor weaponry, enwrapped in the kind of heavy sonic technology that his fans have come to expect. From the tear-out but tightly wound collaboration with with June Miller in BLAFFER, to the grime-influenced and glitched vocals of GOOD QUESTION that comes in heavy with the evil bounce of its bass – the EP runs a diverse and unique flex. Title-track GRINDER delivers an appropriately punishing assault, packed with sinister sound design and brooding, dynamic riff, whilst TANGLE delivers an edgy and lightly percussive shuffle to accompany its powerful bass. Their status as elite was undeniable, a twin humanoid team paired with the heavily armed hybrid, all of them augmented with cutting edge wetware and black-ops endtech. Gazing over the wasted metropolitan landscape of the old capital of this dead-end planet, they activated their internal dataspikes carrying their encrypted tasks and poured over the contents // RETRIEVAL - HIGHER LEVEL SONIC WEAPONRY WITH CAPITAL DESTRUCTION CAPABILITIES - COORDINATES TRANSMITTED & EMBEDDED IN SUB-SURFACE NEURAL LAYER // The subnotes indicated its capacity to disintegrate entire buildings with a highly focussed emission of intense articulated resonant frequencies. Looking around, evidence of this was clear, with gaps in the broken skyline, where the great towers of this city’s ruling megacorp once stood. Heaps of fine grey sand lay in their place, the result of the device’s terrible effect - reducing them to base states of entropy. The hybrid scanned the barren landscape with its ocular implants, marking the coordinate location in the team’s HUD systems and rapidly switching through the various optical spectrums of its threat detection system. They set forward determinedly, moving quickly through the ruins that remained, closing the distance to the objective quickly. They moved in deathly silence, their steps masked by phase cancellation pads in their boots, allowing even their hulking hybrid companion to move as a quietly as the whisper of death on the fringe of the wind. 

They took position upon the upper floor of a broken building, looking out upon the crater in which the device rested. The rival merc crew that was working with frenetic pace below to detach the weapon from its housing were basic operators, their heat signatures highly visible and open radio comms, real amateurs. Without a word, the trio dropped down from the vast height, the air moving over them without resistance as their suits excited and repelled the molecules that moved against them. Touching down in silence, their ruthless assault began - shouldering his chaingun, the team’s EM specialist rained a hail of fire upon their rivals with ruthless precision, each shot locked and guided to their mortal marks by the EM signals produced by the weapons of his very targets. His partner moved quickly from cover to cover, his implants working furiously, hijacking the soldiers senses and systems, disabling them and making them easy targets for the hybrid - charging furiously forward, devastating their ranks with its impossible strength. In mere seconds, the bustling center of activity at the crater lay suddenly silent. Without pause they passed through the carnage and approached the device, and gazed at the warning roughly scrawled on its surface ‘BEWARE!”.

The powerful drum and bass duo - TELEKINESIS - return for their 3rd EP - BEWARE! - on seminal tech label EATBRAIN.
